Sale to Red Sox Topic

you are analyzing the trade purely as a Red Sox hater...you can pretend you are presenting reason, but you are really just ranting biased opinion

If he's saying the White Sox got fleeced, is he not crediting the Red Sox for making a good trade?

Once the 2016 season ended, the White Sox’s brass -- led by owner Jerry Reinsdorf, president Ken Williams and GM Rick Hahn -- decided they would go into full rebuild mode and were expecting to accept the five- to six-year timetable it takes to get turned around, as proven recently by teams like the Cubs, Astros and Nationals. However, within a 24-hour period, they made two blockbuster trades that many are calling the best rebuild trades in the history of baseball, with almost unanimous views from the 30 GMs that they couldn’t have done any better in their trades for Chris Sale and Adam Eaton. Those trades were so good, many think they’ll take two years off their expected rebuild timetable. These are Hahn’s best two trades of his career, and they probably solidified his long-term future as the White Sox GM.

In the Sale trade with Boston, he got the game’s best position-player prospect in Yoan Moncada, who should be an impact middle-of-the-order second baseman with all the tools to be a superstar, a future No. 1 starter in Michael Kopech, whom most are comparing to Noah Syndergaard, and an everyday future center fielder in Luis Alexander Basabe.

Getting Sale led to the removal of Clay Buchholz.

I love Chris Sale.

Clay Buchholz is 32! What happened to the kid who went 12-1?

Same thing that happens to a lot of young pitchers....lacks consistency and has never adjusted to the fact ML hitters have adjusted to him.

Once a pitcher has been in the league awhile, scouts have had a good look at them and hitters have faced him a number times. They have learned how he gets hitters out and they adjust to that. Now the young pitcher has to develop and adjust to what the hitters are now doing...etc etc It's a never ending game... The problem, some young pitchers are unwilling or unable to adjust, so...

Bucholz is one of these. Still a decent SP and is a good pick up for the Phillies. He will add depth to the starting pitching. Who knows, maybe a change of leagues and team will help him. It was a salary dump for the Red Sox, plain and simple.

As for Boston...they are now the big favorites to win the Amer. East division. Right now I'd put Yankees 2nd, Orioles 3rd (mainly due to their bats, pitching is still questionable overall), Jay in 4th (Offence is gone and still no bullpen)....
