If he pitches 70 innings a season that's about 250,000 dollars an inning.... sick.

This is a weird signing. A record contract for a reliever from a rebuilding team that already had a capable and cheap closer.

yeah, but the Yankees have tons of money. Look at the prospects they got for not having Chapman for a couple of months. A couple of months when he wouldn't have made much of a difference in how their year turned out.

It's only money. And the Yankees print money.

They traded a number of meh prospects to the Reds to get Chapman a year ago. Then they traded Chapman to the Cubs as a rental for a great prospect in Gleyber Torres. And now they end up with both Chapman and Torres.

I have no problem with this deal.

I don't have a problem with the deal in a vacuum, but even the Yankees don't have unlimited funds. Seems foolish to invest so heavily in one reliever when you're 3 years away from contention.

The Yankees are never rebuilding. They can't afford to be. Their fanbase won't put up with it. If you don't sign some guys they'll start complaining and some will stop watching the games. Also, with Yankee money, you're never a guaranteed 3 years away from contention.
