Was an attempt to set an all time record, so spent $60 million on hitting in an open league. somehow won 67 games with an obscenely bad pitching staff. My goal was 300 and it looked for a while like I'd come up short, but went on a huge run near the end of the season.

^ A team like that has an advantage too. A bad pitching staff means more balls in play
4/12/2018 11:17 PM
yes that was a key part of the strategy. i tried to draft bad pitchers who gave up a ton of hits but didn't give up too many walks or home runs, to give the great fielders more potential hits to take away. also got a few really good range pitchers on the roster, although with that little money to spend, there wasn't much choice.

256 +plays. Team finished 80-82, lost regular season match-ups with all 3 play-off opponents but won the World Series

Not an OL but made a team for this.

LF 1914 Tris Speaker 3.37 RRF
CF 1951 Richie Ashburn 3.40 RRF
RF 1920 Edd Roush 3.27 RRF
1B 1897 Bill Joyce 11.62 RRF
2B 1912 Bill Sweeney 6.44 RRF
3B 1929 Jimmy ***** 3.90 RRF
SS 2017 Elvis Andrus 6.24 RRF
C 1887 John Kerins 10.11 RRF

This team will probably suck on offense but whatever. I got two deadball pitchers (08 Walsh, 88 Buffinton) and I play at Municipal. Hopefully I can get some monster stats

Edit: I’ll give updates when I have time

Thru 56 games I have 63 plus plays. But I can’t help but feel disappointed. Bill Joyce has 6 + plays and Jimmy ***** only has 2!!! Kerins has 0 but I don’t know if catchers can get plus plays.

edit: can’t figure out how to post the image without it being wayyy too ******* big.

catchers can't make + plays

there's huge variance in these, even more than HRs for hitters. you'll have a guy get 10 in 10 games and then not get one for the next 20 games.

I’m disappointed my team only finished with 179 + plays.

Also I have a question but I don’t want to make a separate thread for it.

So on this team, I drafted Bob Milacki, with the intention on saving all year, like people usually do. Well he had come in on 3 games this year, and has thrown a total of 3 innings. 34 pitches right. So postseason comes and since he was hardly used, I figured I could get 2-3 starts from him in the postseason. So I scheduled him to start game 1 in the playoffs.

He throws a 118 pitches and a CG. But now his fatigue is at 60 and after 2 more games, it hasn’t moved a bit.

Did I **** up? Or does WIS not really care about regular season usage when adding IPs for postseason

edit: he threw 365 pitches in real life. So I used 34 in the regular season. Then doesn’t WIS add 10% for the postseason?

So that’s 401 pitches I should be able to get out of him. Then he throws 118 so I should still have 249 pitches left I can get out of him.

I know it’s only been two games since his start, but it concerns me that I’ve used 32% of the pitches he can throw, with one 7 game series left in the season, and his fatigue is super low and hasn’t moved. Thought he’d be right at 100 after the next game.

Whatif did a fix many years ago to prevent this strategy. If I'm not mistaken they set every pitcher on a playoff roster to a minimum of 95% used up. Someone could check me on the percentage.

Edit: Pitchers who are above 95% usage do not get reset.

I haven’t been around WIS that long. What is wrong with this strategy? Why would this need to be changed?
