I tried something like this a few years back and I know many of you enjoyed it. I wanted to try again on a less complicated scale to use the WHATIF engine to play out a tournament to see who the greatest team of all time is. Here is the format:

There will be 256 teams that will be reduced down to one after a best of seven series. The teams will consist of:

- 112 World Series Champions
- 112 World Series runners up
- 32 Wild card teams

The 32 Wild Card teams will be determined in a preliminary round where I will choose 64 of the best teams off alltime that did not win the pennant and face them off. The winners will join the overall pool.

I hope you enjoy this and will follow. I will post the 64 Wild Card teams next and will also create a master bracket that we all can follow.

Thanks

Hey nkokosioulis, you may have more luck posting this in the Theme League Classifieds.
Not exactly a league, I am using Simatchup to get results of my own. I did this before and it had a good following, but it was a while ago.

Let me know if I should move it.
Thanks
12/15/2016 2:31 AM
No, don't move it. I enjoyed reading these before. Looking forward to this one.
12/15/2016 11:03 AM
I agree with crazystengel. Keep posting. Great list of teams added to the World Series winners and runners up.

This should be fun.
12/15/2016 3:26 PM
Yep, sorry. Deleted my post when I realized what this was meant to be! Love it.

2005 St. Louis Cardinals defeat 1985 New York Mets 4 games to 2
Series MVP; Albert Pujols (,296, 3 HR, 6 RBI)

The Cardinals behind some great pitching defeat the Mets and move on. Jason Marquis pitched a complete game shutout in game 2 and Chris Carpenter allowed three runs in his two starts. The Mets couldnt followup a game one win and lost two out of three at Shea. In Game Six Albert Pujols hit a go ahead home run that would be the difference in a 7-6 win

I tend to agree. We will see how the 100 win 1988 Mets do as they are up next against the 99 win 1978 Red Sox.

1988 New York Mets (100-60) defeat 1978 Boston Red Sox (99-64) 4 games to 2
Series MVP: Mookie Wilson (.400, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 2 SB)

The Mets take care of the hard luck Red Sox and do so with two shutouts. New York had a 1.57 team ERA and great pen help with the likes of Roger McDowell pitching 10 scoreless innings. Legends like Carl Yazstremski struggled as the Red Sox just couldn't match the Mets. Jim Rice did have two home runs in the series.

That's a great matchup, two teams that looked like they had it wrapped up. One bumped out by Bucky Dent's HR in a special one-game playoff, after the Yankees came back from 14 games down in July, and the other losing unexpectedly to the Dodgers in the NCLS.

Both teams full of memorable personalities.

2008 Boston Red Sox (95-67) defeat 1920 New York Yankees (95-59) 4 games to 1
Series MVP: Dustin Pedroia (.409, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 SB)

After losing the opening game at the Polo Grounds, the Red Sox turned the tables on their rivals and won five games in a row. Mike Lowell singled the walk off winning run in the bottom of the ninth of game five to clinch a series that many though would be alot closer. Babe Ruth hit three home runs but all were solo shots as the Bambino only had three RBI.
