I always love a good (low-cap) puzzle. I'll give it a try.
1/1/2017 7:41 PM
1. 1B-OF Bob Farley 1962-62
1962 Bob Farley
1962 Terry Fox

-----> Farley will likely be the most useless player in the league. Fox was an easy choice.

2. 1B-OF Jon Zuber 1996-98
1996 Jon Zuber

1996 Rickey Jordan
-----> Like Farley, only one season I could use. Jordan became the 25th player added to the roster after getting the rest of the roster in place. 3 out of the 4 picks so far are scrub first basemen. Already in trouble.

3. * P Rufus Smith 1927 Tigers [non-sim player; take a 200k stand-in and replace with a left-handed starter from AAA]
200k temp (1996 Mike Walker)
---> replacing with left-handed starting pitcher 1996 Kirk Rueter
1927 Marty McManus
-----> McManus was an unexciting but obvious need.

4. P Bill Ayers 1947 Giants
1947 Bill Ayers

1947 Babe Young
-----> Another player with just one season, and it is a hideous season. Desperately tried to get 1B Johnny Mize on this team, but had to settle for a significantly less expensive Young.

5. 1964 Major League Baseball Died This Year [including, tragically, Ken Hubbs and Fred Hutchinson]
1914 Casey Hageman

1907 Dave Altizer
-----> Looked at every player eligible. Happy Felsch was too expensive to fit on the roster. At one point I had C Grover Hartley on the roster, but had to shave cost. Needed a guy who could play multiple positions, so had to unhappily settle for Altizer. Hageman made sense from the beginning and survived the many changes I made to the roster to make it all work.

6. box score 4/9/2010 Cubs at Reds
2010 Johnny Gomes
2010 Homer Bailey
-----> I REALLY struggled with this one. I didn't want most of the players eligible, and the few I would have liked were too expensive to fit on the roster. Not happy with using either Gomes or Bailey, but that is the give and take nature of the smaller cap (which by the way, I love the smaller cap). You have to make tough choices with a smaller cap, that and the puzzle-like theme that this is makes it my favorite on WIS!

7. 1876 New York Mutuals batting, pitching, and fielding [any two players from the Mutuals, in any season 1885 or later]
1885 Bobby Mathews

1886 Davy Force
-----> Toughest category hands down that I have had in this theme, and the small cap further complicated this category. Basically I had a choice of 3 players that covered about 6 seasons. This ended up being a $18.4 million dollar pitcher and a 350 PA middle infielder who hit .182. Bet you feel better about your draw about now!

8. OF-1B Tyler Colvin 2009-14
2014 Tyler Colvin

2014 Jake Peavy
-----> I changed Colvin's season at least 6 times, and had a variety of teammates on the roster before finally settling on the 2014 season and Peavy.

9. P Tim Van Egmond 1994-96
1996 Tim Van Egmond

1996 Jeff Cirillo
-----> Well, at least I had 2 seasons to choose from for this player. Cirillo was an early choice and I never really considered changing Cirillo or Van Egmond's season at any point in the constructing of this roster.

10. 1979 San Diego Padres batting
1979 Gene Richards
1979 Bill Fahey
-----> Very unexciting draw and hardly any worthy options. However, with a lower cap this draw possibly helped. Richards was a cheaper, viable option, and Fahey was a left-handed hitting catcher with a reasonable bat and decent arm. Pretty much what I was looking for in a backup catcher, though I may not have drafted quite enough catcher PA's.

11. 1979 Los Angeles Dodgers pitching
1979 Burt Hooton

1979 Ken Brett
-----> Hooton made too much sense and was an easy choice. Hoping that I can get away with Brett in a set up role (and he'll be on a short leash).

12. Manager Stan Robison - any two players from the only team he managed, the 1905 Cardinals. I think he'd want you to play at Robison Field!
1905 Mike Grady

1905 Win Kellum
-----> Pitcher Kellum was added in the very beginning and was in no danger of losing a roster spot. Figure to use him wherever is needed. Also discovered that he died in 1964, so could have used him for category #5, but useful 1905 Cardinals were slim pickings. Had Kid Nichols on the roster at one point, but had to shave dollars (and subsequently quality) because of the damn 2010 box score category with the Reds and Cubs. So added Grady (and dropped Grover Hartley from the 1964 death category, then added Homer Bailey to replace Nichols).

WC. 2016 Odubel Herrera
-----> After getting the first 24 players in place, determined how much cash was left and searched for the most expensive centerfield-type player from 2016 that I could afford. It kind of worked out, as Herrera gives me a toolsy-type player who has many PA's and can handle the centerfield duties.

Ballpark: Dodger Stadium, home of Burt Hooton and Ken Brett. My offense is pathetic and my team range is terrible, so will try and mask these inefficiencies with a pitcher park and hope it works. I've had some moderate past success with this theme, but cannot see that being the case this time around. Might be a long season.

Thanks for running this theme tdoak, it's the best!

I always love a good (low-cap) puzzle. I'll give it a try.
maddove117: Welcome! Sorry I missed this yesterday; here are 12 random pages for you:

1. 1895 Pittsburgh Pirates pitching
2. Pitching Leaders Age 34 [lists the best age-34 seasons by statistical category ... and also the career leaders UP TO age 34 and AFTER age 34. You can take any two pitchers listed, but only in their age-34 season.]
3. Loras College Duhawks (Dubuque, IA) - never heard of it, but they have produced three major league players -- Bill Burbach, Frank Quillici, and Hall of Famer Red Faber. Take two of the three, in any season of their careers.
4. 1949 New York Giants batting, pitching and fielding statistics

5. P Lynn Nelson 1930-40
6. 2010 Seattle Mariners Schedule & Results [lists all pitchers who had a decision or save for the Mariners OR AGAINST THEM; take any two, including opponents]
7. P Ross Ohlendorf 2007-16
8. P Gene Dale 1911-16

9. C Chris Widger 1995-2006
10. * OF-1B Charlie Babington 1915 Giants [non-sim player; take one of his Giants teammates, and a 200k stand-in, to be replaced by a right-handed hitting OF-1B from pick-your-own AAA]
11. 1914 Philadelphia Athletics batting, pitching & fielding statistics
12. box score 5/15/2009 White Sox at Blue Jays

A couple of unusual draws there, and a lot of pitching slots, but looks like the basis for a good team. Good luck with them!

11. 1998 Florida Marlins Roster
12. OF Jesus Alou 1963-79

Doesn't look like there's a way to roster Jack McDowell, but there's a good bio of Jesus Alou linked to his page. When he broke into the big leagues, a San Francisco writer asked local religious leaders, and they all agreed that he needed a nickname, because they were uncomfortable using the name "Jesus" in print. They tried to substitute "Jay". He insisted they use his real name; it took a while to convince them.

I could NOT figure out whose name WIS was redacting from the career leaders for AB per SO in dodgebob's post, #4, above. I don't suppose the fellow's name was controversial back in Philadelphia in the 1920's. Well, at least they didn't redact Jesus Alou's first name ...
