reddtrain, poppapomp, dcmatcheck - Your rosters all check out; I hope you've all kept them to $70m.

We are still looking for 5 owners. Who wants the first random team of the New Year?
Yes, I stuck to the cap by limiting IP and PA. We expect to win 50 games in the first half before fatigue sets in and lose 50 in the second half.

I had a site mail from eliasr who signed up for our league directly. So, welcome aboard, eliasr! You are our 23rd man, and here are 12 random pages for you:

1. 1923 Chicago Cubs Batting Statistics
2. OF Mike Young 1982-89
3. P Rex Barney 1943-50
4. 1976 Oakland Athletics Lineups and Defense [any two players who started a game for the A's that year, including starting pitchers]

5. * OF-P Bill Parks 1875-76 [a non-sim player; roster a 200k stand-in, and then you will select a right-handed starting pitcher OR a right-handed OF as your AAA replacement for him. He did have a couple of teammates from 1875-76 who had a sim season in 1885 or later, so use one of those seasons as his teammate for your second man representing this page]
6. 1936 St. Louis Cardinals Schedule and Results [this lists the winning and losing pitcher and any saves for each game that year, so you'll take two pitchers listed, from the Cardinals OR their opponents, no twisting]
7. P Will Ohman 2000-2012
8. box score 8/13/2009 Pirates at Rockies [any two players who appeared in the game, no twisting]

9. 1987 Major League Baseball Player Value - Pitching [any two pitchers, that season only]
10. P Leo Rosales 2008-10
11. 1996 Pittsburgh Pirates Roster

That puts us up to 23 players, plus I have built a team from the alternate draw that I received earlier. So if everyone gets their roster in, I will enter the alternates so we can get going. But I will continue to advertise for a 24th owner until we have 23 teams entered, because the Alternates aren't very good!

Complete redo on my team today. Too complex for my old mind.....
1/16/2017 7:33 AM
Alas, it was all too complicated for eliasr, so we are back to 22 players. If anyone else would like a second team, please let me know, but we are still looking for at least one more owner [plus my Alternates].
1/16/2017 10:07 AM
love this league even i get killed every time randomize me sir
1/16/2017 10:11 AM
ok, I'm still in the holiday spirit, so randomize and confuse me.
1/16/2017 10:35 AM
rjj4191: Thanks for getting us off the sandbar. I hope this is a great draw for you:

1. P Cy Falkenberg 1903-17
2. P Lefty Hoerst 1940-47
3. 2007 Washington Nationals Fielding Stats [any two players from the 2007 Nats, incl. pitchers - no twisting]
4. 1942 Chicago White Sox Pitching Statistics

5. 1952 Cleveland Indians Trades and Transactions [any two players listed on the transactions page, in their 1952 season, whether it was with the Indians or someone else]
6. * P-OF Bobby Darwin 1962-77 pitching page [hmm, I had no idea he came up as a teenage pitcher, before switching to the OF ten years later. Anyway, you got his pitching page, so take a 200k stand-in, replace him with a great-hitting pitcher from AAA, and use one of his teammates from 1962 or '69]
7. 1884 National League Standard Pitching [since it's 1884, you can twist any two players from this page to any sim-eligible season - includes a lot of position players]
8. SS-2B-1B Julio Franco 1982-2007

9. Single-Season Leaders & Records for Situ. Wins Added (WPA/LI) - [BATTING] [see http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/wpa_li_bat_season.shtml ] - this is the top 500 seasons of all time, so you're going to have two very expensive players as anchors of your offense from this page
10. 1989 Kansas City Royals Trades and Transactions [see rules in #3 above]
11. OF Willie Horton 1963-80
12. 1973 Boston Red Sox Schedule & Results [lists pitcher decisions and saves in each Red Sox game that year; take any two pitchers listed, including Red Sox opponents]

Lots of talent there. Hope you can find a way to stay under the cap!
1/16/2017 2:21 PM
sjh0825: You are owner #24, and here are your 12 pages:

1. 2004 Colorado Rockies Fielding Stats [any two players, incl. pitchers, no twisting]
2. 1985 American League PH/HR/Situ Hitting [any two players, not necessarily teammates, 1985 season only - no pitchers listed here]
3. * P Lance Dickson 1990 Cubs [non-sim player; take a 200k stand-in, replace him with a Left-handed starter of your choice from AAA, plus a teammate from the 1990 Cubs]

5. P Ross Wolf 2007-13
6. C Miguel Ojeda 2003-06
7. * P Ray Richmond 1920-21 [non-sim player; take a 200k stand-in, replace him with a right-handed starter, plus a teammate from the 1920 or '21 Browns]
8. 1940 Pittsburgh Pirates Pitching Stats [I don't think I've ever seen Rip Sewell and his 'eephus pitch' in the sim]

9. INF Brendan Harris 2004-13
10. Baltimore Orioles Top 10 Pitching Leaders [this is the NL Orioles of 1882-99; it lists both single-season and career, so if you take a career leader, you can use any of their seasons with the Orioles; take two pitchers listed here]
11. * OF Tom (Brick) Mansell 1879-84 [take a 200k stand-in, and replace him with a left-handed-hitting OF, plus a teammate of Mansell's twisted to any sim-eligible season since you can't use 1879-84]
12. 1942 St. Louis Browns Roster [any two players, 1942 season only]

Good luck building your team, and post it here when you're ready!
1/16/2017 2:33 PM
If someone is interested in checking out our league, I would love to have an alternate owner, in case someone fails to enter their team. Just ask and I'll be happy to randomize 12 pages for you so you can try to build a roster.

I'll be the 24th or alternate
1/17/2017 9:49 AM
bottomlee: Thanks for volunteering as our alternate. Here are 12 random pages that you may (or may not) use:

1. * C Les Peden 1953 Senators [non-sim player; take a 200k stand-in, to be replaced by a right-handed hitting catcher you pick from AAA. Plus a teammate of Peden's from the '53 Senators]
2. 1983 Baltimore Orioles Schedule and Results [any pitcher who had a decision or a save for the Orioles, or against them that season, no twisting]
3. INF John Monroe 1921
4. Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees [that's ALL of them, so you can take any two HOF'ers in any sim-eligible season of their careers]

5. 1926 Detroit Tigers Roster
6. 1963 Los Angeles Angels Batting Statistics [any two players from the Angels, including pitchers]
7. 2009 Milwaukee Brewers Lineups and Defense [any two Brewers who started a game, incl. starting pitchers, but not relievers]
8. box score 10/3/1947 Yankees at Dodgers [any two players who played in this game - World Series Game 4, the one where Cookie Lavagetto doubled with two outs in the ninth to break up Bill Bevens' no-hitter and beat him]

9. SS Arnold Hauser 1910-15
10. * P Ted Turner 1920 Cubs [take a 200k stand-in, then pick a right-handed starter from AAA to represent Turner, plus one of his teammates from the Cubs]
11. OF Chick Fullis 1928-36
12. OF Al Shaw 1907-15

I had to go back and read the play by play of the World Series game. Can you imagine a manager leaving a pitcher in a WS game into the 9th after he'd walked eight batters in the first eight innings, no-hitter or not? Or, amazingly, ordering an INTENTIONAL WALK to put the winning run on base with two out and a man at second to get a better matchup for Bevens?
