Best Decade Team – Tournament ($120M Salary Cap)
Which decade produces the best team? This tournament will decide this. This is for serious players only, as you will be required to purchase a $20 gift certificate (to fund the prize pool) as well as build and manage 6 teams (which will run simultaneously). Also, you need to find a partner before you sign up. I will not “hold” your spot while you find somebody to pair up with.
Since there are only 24 spots in this tournament, there will be twelve 2-person partnerships, where each person will build and manage 6 teams. Each partnership will enter a total of 12 teams, one from each of the following decades: 1900’s, 1910’s, 1920’s, 1930’s, 1940’s, 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, 2000’s, 2010’s. For purposes of this theme, a decade will be defined as 00-09, not 01-10. How your partnership decides which decade each of you will play is up to you. A matrix will be posted which shows which teams /partnerships will enter which leagues.
Round 1
Each league will be a 12-team league with two divisions of 6 (so only two teams make the playoffs / World Series). One division will consist of the 1900’s thru 1950’s while the other division will consist of the 1960’s thru 2010’s. So there will be 12 total leagues of 12 teams each (144 teams = 24 owners x 6 teams each).
The total regular season wins by each of the 12 teams owned by a partnership will be added up. Bonus points will be added for the two World Series participants (25 for winning, 15 for losing). The partnership with the most points after Round 1 will split $280 (i.e., $140 each).
Round 2A
The 12 World Series Winners from Round 1 will compete in another 12-team league. The division alignment will be based on league numbers (i.e., league numbers 1-6 in one division, 7-12 in the other division, regardless of decade). The World Series winner of this league will win $100. The World Series loser wins $35.
Round 2B
The team from each decade with the best W-L record will advance to compete in another 12-team league. If tied, bonus points are used. If still tied, then best expected winning percentage is used. The World Series winner of this league will win $100. The World Series loser gets $35.
And yes, it’s possible that there will be some teams that get to play in both 2A and 2B.
