ERA and saves are close to 10% different. Would 90% of your salary be "relatively close" to what you're making? If so, send me that 10%. Thanks in advance.

Two of these aren't "relatively close" unless you go back to the "3.2 and 3.9 WAR are practically the same" thought of reasoning.

"River has about 200 more IP, but their ERAs are relatively close (2.76 vs 3.08), their WHIPs are relatively close (1.00 vs 1.05) and their save totals are relatively close (652 vs 601)"
LOL. Missed this the first time around. The dumbass doesn't even know how to read statistics.

What he's referring to as ERA is actually their FIP (another useless stat).

Career ERA (for PSBL's benefit) are:

Mariano Rivera: 2.21
Trevor Hoffman: 2.87

Not even close.

You are right, I grabbed the wrong numbers. I just moved left from WHIP and thought I was at ERA.

Both Hoffman and Rivera averaged 39 saves a year.

Oh, ok. Then just WHIP and ERA.
I don't have a problem with WHIP. Nothing wrong with measuring how many runners one puts on base in an inning.

Not sure why you think I "love" ERA, other than you're desperate for an argument and are just pulling **** out of your ***.

Maybe you should shut down your web browser for a couple of days, clear your head. You're having a bad forum day.
So we agree that WHIP is useful.

Hoffman's WHIP: 1.06
Rivera's WHIP: 1.00

Any other stats you like?
tec?

652 to 601 was the numbers we were discussing, no?

You're getting faster as you age. It used to take you 3-4 posts to change the argument but now you're doing it in one. PED use?

Well, you flipped to percentages so I figured averages were OK too.

Factor in their post-season numbers, and you've got:

Mariano Rivera: career ERA 2.06 in 1424.2 IP, career saves 694
Trevor Hoffman: career ERA: 2.87 in 1102.1 IP, career saves 605

Not even close.

You see that little curvy symbol after the last S in saves? That's a question mark. I'm asking you.

Well, I thought I'd use something you'd understand because it you think 2.76/3.08 and 652/601 are "relatively same", you're misunderstanding something.

Will you be sending me $51 for every $652 you make? You can keep the "relatively same" $601.

Sadly for you, you're not controlling the conversation here.

So go ahead. Tell me what my other favorite pitching stats are, and how they show that Rivera and Hoffman are "close".

You don't think those numbers are comparable?

Putting aside the fact that saves are a useless stat, over 19 years, Rivera saved 652 games, averaging 39 per 162 games.

Over 18 years, Hoffman saved 601 games, averaging 39 per 162 games.

Seems pretty comparable to me. Relatively close is the term I used.

"Relatively same," doesn't make sense. No one says that.
