Now that the hundreds of spaces have been filled in Juice's Holiday Tourney, I'm going to renew my efforts to pitch the Twist w/ a Hero (AL Juggernauts) League. The first two seasons of TWAH were very exciting/competitive. The Hero really serves as an equalizer, and can make a team with just one or two holes able to hold its own against those teams that always show up in twist leagues.
Looking at the open slots in the American League, I see plenty of potentially potent options. (These are just suggestions, you can select any non-blacklisted season from these franchises):
BREWERS - 1984 Milwaukee Brewers. The 1982 Brewers took the title in Season Two. the '84 Brewers roster is very similar to that '82 team. The roster features twist favorites Don Sutton, Rollie Fingers, Ted Simmons, Paul Molitor, Robin Yount and Cecil Cooper. 2004 Ben Sheets (239 IP, 0.98 WHIP, .226 OAV, 10.03 K/9, 1.22 BB/9) makes the rotation rather nasty!
ANGELS - 1982 California Angels. Here's an offense that features Rod Carew, Bobby Grich, Brian Downing, Don Baylor, Reggie Jackson and Fred Lynn! The pitching staff includes twist fave Luis Tiant. Add 1976 Frank Tanana (289 IP, 0.99 WHIP, .203 OAV, 8.15 K/9, 2.28 BB/9) and your rotation will be able to hang with anyone's.
RANGERS - 2011 Texas Rangers. Offense is stacked with big bats like Adrian Beltre, Michael Young, Ian Kinsler, Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz. Bullpen features WiS studs Mike Adams, Koji Uehara and Neftali Feliz. Stick 1974 Fergie Jenkins (333 IP, 1.01 WHIP) at the top of your rotation and you've got a potential championship team here.
BROWNS - 1919 St. Louis Browns. With George Sisler, Baby Doll Jacobson and Ken Williams, offer a good mix of speed and power. Adding 1996 Roberto Alomar (.328/.411/.527) and you've got the makings of a mighty offensive attack. Dave Davenport and Alan Sothoron anchor a solid pitching rotation.
...Those are my suggestions for now. Hopefully we'll get those last few spots filled so we can begin play soon.
