Just because you have a boner for offensive players, doesn't mean others don't deserve consideration.

How about other than "stop this nonsense", you stop channeling your inner MikeT and offer something of value to the discussion? Rolen is potentially a Top 10-15 3B of all time. No one is saying he's a lock for the HOF (dahs and I both said he likely won't get in), but he definitely deserves consideration. If you think otherwise, you clearly have some bias against him, or you totally ignore defense when it comes to HOFers.

At any point in Scott Rolen's career, was there ever a general feeling that "Wow, this guy is one of the best third basemen all-time in MLB"?

Because I don't remember that. I remember that the general feeling was "Hey, Scott Rolen is an above average third baseman".

Seeing that it's dahs and jtpoop who have taken the point in the Rolen discussion, yeah.

I never had that feeling about Palmeiro, either. Yet if he hadn't tested positive, he'd be in the HOF.

I guarantee there are a few HOFers who didn't feel like "best all-time" players during their careers, but when it was all said and done, people looked back and realized they had a HOF career.

Rolen, Andruw Jones, Damon were all really good players. Jones is the only one that even "felt" like HOF potential but then he got off track(alcohol?). None of those should be given "serious consideration".

Again, you're going by offense. Did Rolen stand out as an all-time great hitter during his career? No.

But he DID have a reputation for being one of the best defensive 3B ever during his career. And considering your anti-DH boner for guys who don't play the field, you should appreciate defense.

Unless you're all about D-rated defenders who hit ball very far, make home run.
