NL South
Former Oklahoma City Franchise The two best players are pre-arbitration in
LF Wells and
SS Milligan. Veteran
3B Lollar and power hitting
2B Casali provide further support in the batting order. The team finished under .500 last year mostly because of a lack of pitching depth as
SP Barkett is the best starter in the rotation. The team focused on pitching in the draft last year getting
SP Choo. Top pick
2B Wood lurks in the minors too, and so does
1B Coulter,
SP Martin, They have a fairly low payroll and the 10th overall pick in the draft.
NL West
Former Tucson Franchise - A good team with 9 arbitration eligible players so there's some flexibility in salary and roster decisions.
RP Jones returns from injury to anchor the bullpen but the Ace is
SP Walters who is followed by
SP Palmeiro. Last year they drafted
2B Barnes in the first round. They also have
IF Brown,
RF Buck,
CF Park,
RF Bradshaw,
SS Wagner,
2B Stahoiak,
CF Silva, and
1B Sojo in the minors. The farm system is not top heavy but it is deep (with ML ready talent) and that gives any new owner a lot of options and flexibility. They will pick 18th in this season's amatuer draft.
AL East
Former Hartford Franchise The owner of this team has verbally told me he's coming back, but hasn't yet. They will have the 3rd overall pick in the draft this year. Last year's 4th overall pick was
SP Lennon and two years ago the 2nd overall pick was
SP OBrien. Three seasons ago they took
SS Gonzalez with the 3rd overall pick. Other prospects are
SP Landrum,
SS McNeil,
1B Rivers, and
RP Gongora. The team figures to have a very low payroll with only 2 players making over $1 million and 12 players eligible for arbitration. The best players in the Majors are
1B Dunn,
SS Stone, and
SP Evans.
AL South
Former San Antonio Franchise
AL West
Former Santa Cruz Franchise Has been a steady franchise finishing over .500 for 6 straight seasons and having one owner for the past 10 seasons. Despite all that success, they have no outrageous contracts and a medium payroll. The young CF Pagan is the star of the franchise, which has only 4 players older than 30 years old. A starting staff of SP Guerrero, SP Morrison, and SP Pujols is a pretty solid foundation. C Wilson and 1B McCarty provide some depth behind Pagan in the lineup. They'll pick 17th this year. TAKEN
