Which are more important hitting ratings? Topic

If everything else was even would you prefer a hitter that is like 80 contact, 80 power, but 40 Vs Right and Vs Left, or the other way around with 40 contact and power but 80 VS right and left?

I'd take the contact-power combo for sure. Low OBP, but high slugging %.

Depends on what I want the hitter for and the other ratings.

80 contact and power with 20 eye is no good, but you can get away with 20 eye with 40 contact and power with 80 VsL, VsR

Personally though, all things considered I prefer the guy with the better splits. I have this guy Platoon for right handed pitching:

and he's usually around a .350 on base. I can only imagine how good he would be if he was 80+ VsL also.

The other way around I find players to not be very effective. Here is the best example I can give of a high contact and power guy with not much else.

Guys with low splits, particularly a low vR split, are generally not going to be very effective hitters. Despite high numbers in the other ratings.

90 power/eye will overcome almost anything. This guy was a DITR: Player Profile: Wilmer Garrido - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports

You should also keep in mind that splits will stay good throughout a career. 80 Con/Pow might be better during his prime but, once that power curtails, he goes to **** fast. The 80 splits guy will be solid(or at least the same) well into his mid 30s.

To be fair, your guy has a 63 VsR. Do you have his split numbers handy? Would be curious to see what he did VsL?

Only reason I ask is with the guy I posted earlier (West) do you think if he had an eye in the 90's that he would have been an effective ML'er?

S38 VL 137 AB, 877 OPS(821 VR)
S39 VL 115 AB, 810 OPS(884 VR)
S40 VL 165 AB, 772 OPS(734 VR)

Overall, not much difference. Facing RHP more, obviously, but he's not been platooning for those seasons. SH so that helps.

Luis Diaz is a testament that 90+ PWR/EYE combo won't overcome everything. He was an IFA that I went for because he had some intriguing ratings. 99 power, and 92 batting eye, but only 4 on contact and 37/50 vLH/vRH splits. Started off raking in the minors but was less successful as he moved up levels and eventually fell off a cliff and wasn't able to do anything at all once he reached the ML level.

I'd have probably given him more AB, VR only, to see but, yeah, 4 contact creates a lot of whiffs.

Cla Zagurski has 213 HRs and a .955 OPS in 701 minor league games. Is he ever going to make the majors? No.

99 power
77 vR
60 eye
13 contact

Playing in a hitter's park has helped, but he has a career .813 OPS in 2200+ games.

Player Profile: Oswaldo Benitez - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports is what power and batting eye combo can do. He defies logic.
