First let me start by saying I like where 3.0 has taken this game. The recruiting is MUCH IMPROVED and I like how they didn't make it a sure thing that the top team gets the recruit. Makes it more realistic and frustrating at times. I love being able to have an online game I don't have to put forth a ton of time and attention towards and the fact that it's mobile makes it all the better. But, the more I play it, the more I wonder about a few items and if the developers should put more thought into these on the next release than a different look and feel to the game.
1. Why have the developers not gotten on the bandwagon of conference realignment?
It's hard seeing some of these schools in their old conferences. I know 12 teams per conference makes it easier to give every school 26 regular season games (10 non-con and 16 conference) and just streamline the whole game, but I think they'd find a way around this.
2. Why do the developers limit the number of redshirts you can place on players to one a year?
I generally have two extra players each year just sitting there because I play two deep at every position and I have to choose which one I want an extra year out of.
3. Unlike in real college basketball, why are teams limited to 12 scholarships when the real limit is 13?
Not to mention we should have walk-ons after that, instead of in place of empty scholarships like in real life.
4. Why are there no injuries?
Durability is a wasted stat in that case. I've had one injury in the 10+ season's I've played. Not the worst thing because I hate them, but never the less, they are a part of the real world.
---There is one improvement I'd liked to see on the next upgrade which is not to the recruiting side, but the coaching.
I wish they'd include...
1. Player roles (3 point specialist, slasher, distributor, defensive, rim protector, balanced) to name a few.
With these, and if you got the right role with the player's attributes, you could see an uptick in their production in these areas.

I know this is a bit long, but I'd like to know the community's thoughts on these.

1. Changing conference alignment would move some users to new conferences. I wouldn't touch that one with a 10 foot pole.
2. I would assume to avoid "stacking" a team for future seasons. Place 7 redshirts, play 5, get the extra year. Equivalent of tanking in HBD.
3. No opinion.
4. I thought there were injuries. They're just infrequent and I imagine that came from user complaining.

1. I think it needs to be done on the contrary, but you keep 12... So it works out.
2. Agreed.
3. Same.
4. I had key injuries in the past... It cost me games.

2. whats wrong with that? isnt that pretty similar to doing 6-6-0-0 classes? Why do we care if someone is tanking?

I think changing conference alignment should be done but, say in the case of Smith-Little East(which I know doesn't matter), we have 10 users from HBD. We WANT to be in the same conference. I'm sure, in some of the D1 B6, that users want to be in the same conference.

I guess you could change the school name but leave everything else intact. That would be less disruptive. But you know there would be one user who'd say "I only want to coach Missouri not West Virginia!!!"

You may not care. I argue enough about tanking in HBD. I won't be doing it here.

  1. I think that turns out to be a major re-write. Not a programmer, but that's my sense from admin responses.
  2. Folks complain bitterly about that super-classing too, even with the limitations. I do think that D2 would be dominated by super-classes to an extent that would get users pretty salty.
  3. Fatigue. If one team only goes 8 deep and another 13 or 15, then some of the fatigue calculations in the sim may get thrown off. When I first started, it seemed that every D2 & D3 winner was a FB/FCP or Motion/press team running at uptempo. Combine that with super-classes and there might be only 1 way to win.
  4. There are injuries. A lot more than I recall in GD (laughable). I think I recently saw the first medical exemption listed in a news feed within HD (in 6 or 7 years?)

HD has injuries. Gridiron currently has no injuries at all, rationale seems to be injuries are a bummer.

I wouldn't be surprised to see HD eventually go down the same road. They are infrequent as is, wouldn't change the game that much to get rid of them.

They already have player roles, you just have to create the ones that you are interested in using. I think it's good that they only give us the generic player roles. Learning what makes a good 3 pt specialist, slasher, defender, etc is part of the fun imo.

The biggest issue with conference realignment means conferences have more than 12 members which requires them to do a bunch of re-coding. From teh schedule generation to the amount of games and the schedule for each season... etc. you'll never see that due to the complete re-work of much of the code that would be needed. Not to mention how some users would be negatively moved to different conferences.

The conferences have never been 100% accurate, and they can't be reprogrammed every year. The thought of updating them isn't a bad one, but this will be a perpetual minor issue no matter what.
