Starting a new topic cuz bored but who was the fastest player you ever saw play? With all these people saying Billy Hamilton the fastest player ever...and Billy Burns leading the MLB in speed per Statcast, I'll tell you, they ain't got nothing on Willy Taveras. Could cover centerfield and Tal's hill better than anybody else I ever saw.

Not old enough to have seen him but I'm guessing Herb Washington...

Idk, I chuckled a bit when I saw that. But whatev, as a younger fan (compared to the rest of WIS) I'm like genuinely curious about this topic.

Not old enough to have seen him, but I've heard that Cool Papa Bell was so fast that he could turn the bedroom lights off and be under the covers before the room got dark.

He also supposedly once hit a ground ball up the middle that hit him as he was sliding into second base.

Actually not the FASTEST but they guy covered ground in the OF!!

Back in the 70s, a couple of team tried out the idea of 'Designated Base Runners'. Rarely played the field or batted...put in to steal a base or two. Can't remember any names though.

Herb Washington was one of those

Perhaps you need to chill out? I was having some fun with dahs because he was giving eds a hard time over language in the other thread. It wasn't an attack and I don't think dahs took it as one.

If you are 40ish you probably saw Deion Sanders play. And to me he's absolutely the fastest player in the last 25 years.

Scully said the fastest man he ever saw to go from first to third, in 1962...I saw Johnny Mathis, the singer, give a concert and then run and high hurdle the piano 3 times...said he was an alternate on the US Track team?...but you gotta respect Scully, he saw a lot of guys with an educated eye.
