Boris - I agree. It is a mixture of both. Throwing money at it does not solve. It needs to be a mixture of both. It is a mindset of poor people. TRUST ME, programs exist. My dad works at one. The issue is the mindset that poor people don't trust them. We need to end that mentality.
They are poor cause they are bad with money. Period. We need to educate them to be better and at a very young age. No reason to spare feelings.
we do need to educate better, but sometimes its not a case of being bad with money, its a case of having very little money to be bad or good with.
I think the CDC website says something like 27% of people below the poverty line smoke. I'm sure many drink alcohol. Lottery winners typically lose all their earnings, why? Because buying lottery tickets on poor money management on the first place. Many poor people play the lottery... LOTS of poor people do mismanage the money they have. I'm not just reading this from some websites either.... I teach financial education throughout the year to LMI earners. Great people, HORRIBLE with money.

And they get that from their parents. And their neighborhoods. Education is the only way out, particularly financial education.
On this I agree... However they are not going to get there when they are blaming everyone else for their problems. Mindset has to change. It's the cops, it's the financial market collapse, it's whitey.... yeah sometimes those things suck... But ultimately it's YOU!

So we should not try to solve the problems because it is apparently their fault?
You said it yourself.... They won't listen to 'the help'. The government tried to help to the tune of $15 trillion and the war on poverty has only gotten worse the last 5 decades.

Maybe it's time to stop enabling poor behavior.

Trump Told Army Widow Her Husband Knew 'What He Signed Up For,' Congresswoman Says

A Florida congresswoman described President Donald Trump’s phone call to the widow of a soldier killed during an ambush in Niger as “insensitive” after the president reportedly said the man “must’ve known what he signed up for.”

Rep. Frederica Wilson was in the car with Myeshia Johnson, the pregnant widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson, when Trump called her Tuesday and spoke for about five minutes.

“Sarcastically he said: ‘But you know he must have known what he signed up for,’” Wilson recounted to NBC6. “How could you say that to a grieving widow? I couldn’t believe... and he said it more than once. I said this man has no feelings for anyone. This is a young woman with child who is grieved to her soul.”

Again, the nitpicking 'hearsay' stuff that makes libs look like Pavlov's dog. OMG TRUMP SAID SOMETHING, REPORTEDLY!!!

There is that, plus I'm sure the guy thought he'd be poolside in a luxury hotel with a harem around.
Libs' desperation gets more humorous every day.

As I said as early as first grade teach them this:
  • Graduate HS
  • Get a job
  • Don't become a single parent.
Say it 100x a year every year. Once you become a single parent at 16, you drop out of school, don't get a job and live via the State. Cycle continues from generation to generation and becomes part of the culture. Break the cycle. Stop talking about racism and all that crap. Even if I am the biggest racist of all time I have zero say over what some kid does in say Pensacola Florida. As long as he/she graduates, gets a job and does not become a single parent they will be just fine. Turn to capitalism and all your ills will be solved. Socialism and social programs a bane to society. Because of social security, people are saving less and are having fewer kids. In the past people had to save to survive post retirement and had more kids so they could help. Now people spend frivolously and rely on the Gov't to bail them out all while whining insurance is too expensive. Since ACA only the insurance company profits have benefited. People have not. Check out the profits of the biggest firms before and after ACA. Those monies didn't go to the people they went to the insurance companies who are some of the biggest lobbyings for the Dems.

#2 and #1 can be difficult. I personally knew people who had to drop out to support their family. And you need a good education to get a job. My point was that EDUCATION FOR LOW INCOME STUDENTS SUCKS. If you send a kid to a bad school, they will think that their education does not matter, and the chances of dropping out are increased dramatically. The evidence supports this. Yes, if you work hard enough, you will get out. But it is MUCH harder than if you start from the top. That is unfair. Education is the one thing that EVERYONE deserves.

I was never talking about racism. Yes, some people abuse the system. It needs tweaking. But we can't leave these people out to die.
