Do pitchers only bat 9th? Topic

I hadn't thought of this before, but I have an excellent hitting SP who rightly would belong in a better spot than 9th in my lineup. The lineup screen will actually let me leave a spot higher in the order open. So, will the pitcher actually hit 7th? Or will the other regulars be bumped up and the pitcher slotted 9th as usual?

Thanks!

The pitcher will bat in whatever slot you leave open

Excellent. Thank you.

I don't think I've actually seen anyone use this, but surely it's a great advantage if you have the right pitcher for it. I have '55 Don Newcombe, and he's a better hitter than almost everyone else on my roster.

I've had my pitcher bat leadoff before. Can help with low PA lineups

I bat my average-hitting pitchers 8th about half the time. Frequently have a low-PA leadoff type I want to bat 9th.

I almost always bat the pitcher 8th. 9th is a good place for a low PA/ high OBP hitter...

A pitcher like Caruthers can bat at or near the top of the lineup

I have regularly batted pitchers 1st in leagues without AAA just to save on PA.

Is there a way to see how good a hitter a pitcher is? Or is it just performance history.

If you have the search interface set to normal or advanced you can include AVG, OBP, and SLG among the search fields.
