To be clear, I did not say "Don't worry about DEF." I said I'd be more inclined to stress ATH if I had to pick from the two because high IQ can be had while ATH/DEF are limited by their potentials.
Ok. Here I think recruit generation has it wrong. ATH & DEF tend to be generated together (good at one is typically generated as good at the other). So, I don't distinguish.
I wish they would fix that. You look at Carmelo Anthony or James Harden and you see tremendous athletes that are just not interested in playing defense. My favorite recent quote being that Harden perpetually looks like someone that just walked in the room, but has forgotten what he was looking for, while on defense. There ought to be a lot more of those guys generated!
