As season 131 is set to begin, a team from Texas is on the verge of season 2 in the coach Alek era. Texas A&M coming off an 8-6 bowl season has reappeared with swagger and grit. "Bad move by AlekTx11, he should've stayed with UNLV. He'll have a tough time not getting fired and recruiting against the big dogs" per NBC Sports Analyst. Lots of skepticism on whether AlekTx11 can continue his success in the Big 12. Prior to accepting the A&M job, he took the UNLV from a tumbleweed joke of a program to as high as #7 in the nation undefeated before finishing #11 in the nation and a conference championship before heading out the door. 5 seasons in the making. Making the move to College station, Texas seemed to be a stretch by some coaches. "We're more than excited that he's here" says Texas A&M AD. The Aggie program was dormant in the pecking order of the big 12. Season 129 they went 4-9 and had no signs of bringing back the glory days. Season 130 was a success, some might call it a surprise as they squeezed 8 wins and made a bowl game, knocking off Baylor and rival Texas Tech along the way. Giving Oklahoma State and Kansas fits too. On the recruiting trail this season A&M has grabbed 2 of the top local LB's and DB's, stockpiling their new defense. Reloading their high octane offense and focusing their spring game learning how to dominate special teams. "Sky's the limit here" says one freshmen who enrolled early. "We're not scared of anyone anymore". As I write this while watching the aggies begin summer workouts you can feel the change of winds. The "mega star" which coach AlekTx11 calls it is being built in the distance from the stadium. A multi million dollar football facility with State of the art locker room and weight room. Each kid has a built in mini fridge under their locker benches. The weight room has crytherapy machines and body fat pods. "It's viable that kids get their rest so the AD agreed we should build bunk rooms for our athletes to sleep in between classes" says the head coach. Dream big, get big, do big is the motto here. After all this is the state of Texas. Recruits are taking notice. And so is the rest of the big 12. - Stacy Andrews, ESPN MMQB writer
