I made an experiment, in IBA, going for guards with great core abilities, but not ath, def. So far, my thoughts are that ath has a huge impact in scoring and def too low will just get you out of most games that are close.

What's the minimums

D3, D2, D1

I think D2 : 50?

D1: for a high-scoring guard off the bench, maybe 50 DEF/ATH, as long SPD/BH/PER is elite...I'd actually look for about the same at lower levels but I'd be willing to go lower on both DEF/ATH. in my experience, that guy will score at any level.....off the bench. i wouldn't start him--he would be a poor defender and rack up fouls. for a starting guard, i wouldn't want to go below 70 ATH and 80 DEF, with more leniency at PG and less at SG.

Maybe it's the problem, he starts.

At D3, I don't have any issue playing a 30ish ATH 30 DEF guyif the the other numbers are super high.

At D1, I'll bring almost any ATH/DEF off the bench if he's a 90/90 SPD/PER. I figure the difference between a 50/50 and a 10/10 isn't really that much.....unless it's zone then I will try to keep him around 50.

He'll play major mimutes and maybe start for my flex/press D3 team.

These two in man to man, are liabilities. They score, pass but can't keep the score down so I end up losing. And if the ath is too high, they get outmuscled.

Maybe press would be better for them.

He's the all time leading scorer for the program. BUT... against the elite teams, he was on the bench with foul trouble most of the game. We didn't run a zone--maybe he could've been hidden better on D.
