odd draft prospect signability Topic

Age: 22
Signability: Looking for a guaranteed MLB contract. If not, he'll probably play indy ball for a season and take his chances next draft.

Really? Indy ball?

It's been known to happen in real life. JD Drew is an example that comes to mind.

Anyone know if that kind of guy doesn't sign, whether he'll be in the next season's FA class? He's 22 so I would think so. Wasn't sure if all unsigned 22 y/o's hit FA or only some.

The 22 year old has to be "openly signable" to roll over as a free agent the following season.

Quick count in my two worlds - Riley 18 games into regular season; Moonlight Graham just started preseason.

MG - last draft 52 22-yr-olds went unsigned. 43 showed up in this season's minor league pool. That's 9 who never made it to pro ball.

Riley - last draft 33 22-yr-olds went unsigned. 25 showed up in this season's minors. So 8 went elsewhere.

I might guess those are the guys who were considering pro football, basketball, hockey.

Working in daddy's hardware store, banging HS girls who are impressed that they were drafted.

This is 100% correct.

Especially all the ones who are 5' 10" tall with 28 speed who think they are going to get a pro basketball contract.

Getting a "Looking for a guaranteed MLB contract. If not, he'll probably take the scholarship and play D1 baseball." from a HS prospect. I have the #1 pick and he's a legit #1 overall SP. What are the chances this guy signs? 100% if I give him a ML deal?

Bump. Anyone had the "Looking for a guaranteed MLB contract" prospect?

Odds of signing? Contract demands?

Damn. I have to pay more attention. May have missed some real gems that became free agents at 23.

Not really. I look at these guys every season; never found a major league prospect. But an unsigned 6th rounder is a better career minor leaguer than a tryout camp player.

Yeah, I always scan those guys. Think I've found one ML'er and a few good DITR candidates. But usually it's just scrap heap.
