20-20-5-5 or 20-5-20-5 Topic

If one were to set up their team with unbalanced classes in order to maximize recruiting $$$ for 2 out of 4 seasons, which would be the best way to go?

Seems to me 20-20-5-5 would maximize your chances in 1 or 2 seasons in a row while the 20-5-20-5 would spread your growth around more.
So without at least trying one of them first and seeing how it worked out , I would go with the 20-5-20-5 . I'm more in favor of not put my eggs all in 1 basket.

I agree with this old fart

I have played around with this. My preferred approach is looking at my main recruiting rival(s) and imbalance classes against theirs. Oftentimes 16-17 scholarships is max for me because it goes against their 8-9 classes.

20-5-20-5 will give you a strong starting lineup of upperclassmen every season

In DI Unbalanced classes will get shredded by good coaches. Not to mention it is heck of a lot harder to grab two bluechip glory positions(WR,RB) than one. Unless you of course you long distance which then allows my first sentence to happen easier. Balance is where it is at. This is a great strategy for D3 and D2 though.

edit**** I meant to say two of each glory position..EG 2 rb's and 2 wr's in one season.

That wasn't one of the choices offered. And while balanced classes might work best at Michigan, maybe not so much at Houston.

And if your goal is to win a trophy, your chances are exponentially increased with 20 seniors over 12. Even at Michigan

i think a key factor here is formation IQ. in the old game i would completely ignore it but in this version i am becoming more convinced it's really important

I would go with 20-5-20-5 and recruit "skill" position players in the small classes. I have one class of five and I go for a Kicker, Punter, QB, WR and RB and redshirt the last 3. If you get the P and K cheap it allows you to overspend for the 3 key offensive positions.

Albright, it sounds like a solid plan. but with only 5 scholarships you may get knocked off most of the better players at those key offensive positions.

It actually works well. You spend very little on a kicker or punter and have a ton of cash to spend on the others. Typically you have $60k+ bowl cash at D1A and only have 3 players to spend it on along with the leftover cash from signing the others cheap.

This is exactly how the class of 20 gets eaten up though.
