In last Saturday's Wilkinson Central Show, CJ was taking a look at the D-IAA playoffs and marveled (rightly so) at the huge number San Diego put up against Villanova in Round 1. The final score was 90-34.

CJ wondered if that was the highest score in the playoffs against a human opponent (turns out it's not; more on that later).

As luck would have it, I have partial data on the subject. I have playoff results for S115-S119 and S124 and S126-S129. Sorry for the gaps in that S120-S125 range. I'm not sure why I don't have that data, but I only have regular season data there.

If anyone happens to have that data, I'll be happy to include here. Sitemail me.

So, because I'm a stathead and things like this get me curious...

Fun Facts (I'll add here as I discover them):

1. Pete's big win over Lehigh was in the National Championship game!
2. The S119 Nicholls State team was the worst - by my rating system, that is - team in all playoffs for which I have results. So kinda expected on the large numbers there.
3. That game also featured the biggest human-v-human Team Rating differential in all the same playoffs. The differential was almost 3 rating points more than the second-highest differential. (For reference, one rating point is historically worth approximately 7 points in actual game results, separate of coaching effects.)
4. The best team on the wrong end of any of the above results was 2000champou's Texas Southern/S115 team, who was actually "better" than the Tennessee Tech (orangepace) team he was clobbered by. In fact, that Texas Southern team was the sixth-best team (in my ratings) in Wilkinson D-IAA since S115, when I started doing my Media Guides. Ugh. Sorry, champ!
5. ... pete_61 is the owner of two of the four most-impressive Big MOV Wins in the data I have.
6. The S131 NC featured the biggest rating differential for any of the games for which I have data. Maine was -3.11 points from Texas Southern, meaning on talent alone, Texas Southern started with a 21-point lead if you believe my historical data.

Turns out, that was one of Drake's least talented teams since S118. Just to show you how well jasonfreeman and hatroq were recruiting there.

Starting with S119, only Drake's S127-128 teams were "worse" than S129. Of course, "worse" being relative, because every team mentioned, with the exception of S127-128 was in the Top 50 overall, many of which were Top 10. When I say "Top XXX", I mean "of all the teams over all the seasons from 115-131," using my ratings from the Media Guides.

It pains me to see that NC game drubbing vs pete in S126. I've tried to pretend it never happened.

Yeah, sorry to dredge up a tough loss. If it's any consolation, my name is on the wrong side of that MOV list, as well. (Thanks, awags)

Haha. No worries actually. I really didn't think I had any business in that game. My QB's were a So* and Fr*, so I was fortunate to get through to the final.

Always be bringing the noise... otherwise, it'll be brought to you.

Occasionally, you'll just be a loud a$$hole that takes it on the chin... Otherwise you're just that loud a$$hole that forces everyone to be better... either way, respect.
