I'm considering making the jump to D1 after next season just to see what it's all about. Plus I'm feeling lazy and all the new coaches at higher levels is making D3 recruiting a bit different than before

You know what they say "Laziness is the true motivator."

No, wait, they don't say that. FWIW, and I probably just f'd up recruiting, but D2 felt different. Or maybe the 25 or so extra D1 users since I joined changed it a tad.

I think this was one of the toughest recruiting cycles I've ever gone through. Guys who were tagged as fall-back options were being fought over by local DI teams.

Yep, that's what I experienced. And we're on opposites sides of the US.

Well, in this case it's the motivator mainly because I won't be able to pull the recruits at D3 that I have been. I've never tried D1 anyways, so might as well try now to add to the clusterfuck in Rupp

"clusterfuck" seems harsh. I think, should we actually get 150-170 in D1, that the game will be played pretty much as intended. No multiple EE on one team. No ranked players going to D2/D3. No coasting to a conference title by beating 11 SIMs. And so on.

I think it will be difficult. And fun.

That's your best post ever.

Meh. I also think it will lead to a round of "frustration" posts when losing that 62/38 battle because you won't have a decent back-up plan. Or maybe you lose your 1st/2nd/3rd options in battles where you were favored. I know I saw your name on guys I was chasing. I wondered "WTF is D1 Auburn doing on this guy?" but now I imagine you were pushed in that direction.

For simplication, I'd been chasing guys ranked 50-100 the last couple of seasons. I managed a 76(although I'm not sure why he's a 76) but took a D2 JUCO with my other open slot. He was just better suited than those 148 pos ranked guys that the other D2 were on(or D1 weren't). It was just a different experience and, obviously, the same experience a D2 school 2500 miles away had.

The Peach Belt has had 1 user move to D1 and now has 8 others working in that direction.

I moved up from D2 in Rupp to D1 for 2 reasons. I had a good D2 program going at a school in my hometown that I also went to for a semester (until they threw me out lol) and had planned on staying there for a long time. Reason 1: Playing in the fullest D1 conference in HD was intriguing for the competition and to see how it played out. Reason 2. I knew it was going to become increasingly hard to recruit in D2 in Rupp as the D1 teams got more populated. The recruits ranked in the 40 to 100 range that make up most good D2 teams these days would be much harder to come by. I have already in other worlds seen the quality of recruits go down in D2 and D3 from the first couple of seasons in 3.0 as more D1 teams take lower rated recruits than they used to instead of taking multiple walk-ons after losing battles. In Rupp I think that will really be accelerated.

In theory you describe what should happen but I think it'll play out with the vast majority of D1 teams taking 3-4 walk-ons with minimal trickle down effect to D2 and D3.

I decided to try to rebuild my alma mater Dayton. I left Delaware State in pretty good shape if someone is looking to jump to D1 and qualifies for a C+. They return 12 players, will have 10 upper classmen, and run FB/FCP. Should definitely make the NT.
