Julian Melian was acquired through trade by the previous owner. His player card shows that his owner through the 39 season is IA. Since he is on my roster, how come I am not listed as the owner.

He is not worth $5.8m. If unload him how much of his salary will I be liable for?

If you trade him, none.
If you waive him and he's claimed, none.
If you release him, all but 327k per year.

Don't release players under BL contracts. He's not a bad pitcher. Above league average. I'd pay 5.8m for him.

The owner listed is the the userid who signed him to his contract.

Yes he is. Unless your world overflows with good SPs.

You should be able to trade him for something you think you can use.
