Who's the better defender? Topic

(in M2M)

Player 1:
68 ATH
77 SPD
51 DEF

Player 2:
66 ATH
59 SPD
86 DEF

I'm assuming it's Player 2, but the point of my question is, how much weight do we put on speed in defending?

IMO it depends on the position they regularly will be playing. What is the block rating for both?

Both players are interchanged PG and SG. Player 1 has 14 SB and Player 2 has 10 SB.

This is DIII.

Player 2 for sure. Speed is worth a ton but not that much.

Player 1 will get more steals, but gives up more points, and fouls more.

If both are starters, I would tend to put player 2 on the guard I'd like to shut down.

What about playing them against different kinds of matchups? Would you guys put player 1 against a perimeter shooter and player 2 against a passer or inside shooter who tries to get fouled? Or other different kinds of matchups?

Like pkoopman suggested, I usually put player 2 on whomever is the more offensive threat, since their BH and P are fairly comparable. I don't think much beyond that. I build my teams with an ATH and DEF foundation, with M2M, so most of the one-on-one matchups are in my favor.

Typically i would prefer player 1 as a PG and player 2 as a SG if you planned on playing them at guard.
With that being said i would prefer the higher defensive rating in man to man.
