Possible to jump from D3 to D1? Topic

How much success does one need at D3 to make the jump directly to D1?

Yes, it's definitely possible. But you need to have elite success in the NT. Probably multiple Final 4s or a recent title. And I would imagine a lot of experience, like around 10+ seasons is required too.

Not quite that much required, not for the D to D- programs, anyway. I did it in 7 seasons in Phelan, with 7 NT appearances, 3 sweet 16s and 1 elite 8. I'm almost positive I was qualified for D- programs at the D1 level after 6 seasons.

I qualified in four seasons after R32, E8, FF, FF. The last 3 were something like 33 wins and top 5 rpi.

10 seasons at D3 in Naismith.
Had 7 NT's, but only 1 Sweet-16.
The only schools that I qualified for were D-minus in prestige, maybe 12 choices.

Good to know. Is one season of success (PI, NT) at the DII level good enough to get a D, D- D1 program? I'm trying to avoid multiple rebuilds at each level until D1.

no sorry :( D2 will require consecutive NT appearances. The difference is you don't have to get out of the first round. I qualified for all D- and some D teams after 3 of 4 seasons making the NT with 0 wins. After the 5th season making the NT I qualified for all D and some D+. Still no wins at that point of my career.

It took me 3 seasons at D2 to qualify for the D/D- schools at D1. Like Bagger said, it seems like 3 NT appearances at D2 is about the magic number. I don't think the D3 seasons matter too much unless they're really good.

Here's my resume for reference. I just qualified for D1 after Season 106.
