weak draft, you could argue I got the 2nd best player at 11th pick here..

Best player I have ever had. Got him 5th.

I would guess Lowe (28th) got passed down due to his health rating. That's crazy.

That and a lot of people use OVR as their tool for the draft order.

My most recent draft, I had the 33rd pick, gave it up for a Type A knowing I was getting a pick from my own Type A back. Ended up with #42. Knowing the signing bonus would only be about $650k, I did NOT punt the draft, went through my usual routine and ranked my prospects. Ended up with my 7th ranked prospect at the 42nd pick. Not a superstar but he's got an outside shot at being a fast switch hitting CF or very good defensive LF someday.

will makes a great point, lots of people just go by OVR. Last thing I do when ranking players is find the ones with high OVR who look like they won't ever hit or defend at the major league level, and dump them down the list. Those players are the career AAA guys, the ones who end up in the Rule 5 draft.
I've actually seen a 2nd overall pick in the Rule 5 draft after only four seasons. I don't want to have to say I wasted a premium pick on a player like that.

Some worlds are so IFA crazed that a majority of the teams dont budget enough in draft scouting to overcome the fuzziness. I also think there are a lot of teams that budget 10ish in both instead of the smarter 16-20 in one approach.
6/16/2017 3:27 PM
the "fuzzy scouting" update was May 2015, so my best example after that date was Player Profile: Louie Kondou who was #4 on my board (15-15 scouting) but didn't get picked until 65th lol. He had Probably Won't Sign signability, so anybody who had very conservative was automatically skipping him... Even for me, I myself picked 6 other players before him !!!
32 1 24 TOR pjfoster13 Guy Smith SS 21 COL MILB $2,510K 6 3 TOR ML
32 1 30 TOR pjfoster13 Matt Blevins P 18 HS MILB $1,290K 6 0 TB AAA
32 1 37 TOR pjfoster13 Bruce Parmelee P 18 HS MILB $840K 6 1 TOR AAA
32 1 40 TOR pjfoster13 Danry Hernandez P 19 JC MILB $720K 6 3 STL AAA
32 1 42 TOR pjfoster13 Ellis Patterson P 19 JC MILB $640K 6 0 STL AA
32 1 49 TOR pjfoster13 Perry Becker 2B 22 COL MILB $600K 6 0 - ---
32 2 65 TOR pjfoster13 Louie Kondou P 21 COL MLB $9,000K 5 3 TOR ML

Trust me, the rest of them besides Smith all suck butt. I offered Louie a sequence of ridiculous contracts and for some reason he finally signed with me at the very end of the season during the late ML playoffs...

Besides him, Player Profile: Skip Tatum was a memorable whiff. I can't recall for sure but iirc he was questionable signability, but one of the good ones like "pick me in the first round and I'll sign". My scouting was only 8-8 that season, but he was the CLEAR #1 on my board. Scout had him at like 95 proj ovr and the next highest guy was like 85.... I would have picked 30-35 that season and grabbed him, but I had forfeited my pick for a Type A booooo

Kondou is unreal in the late 2nd round.. Guy Smith is pretty good that late in the 1st. Skip Tatum 40th is flipping crazy, especially with him signing for what looks like slot money

I got this guy in the 30-40 range

@willsauve-- I'm intrigued by this. Can you show me some examples?
I got Dummy Lueke at the #6 pick. All five owners ahead of me took College players. I had $20 mil HS/$0 College scouting; Lueke was far and away the best hitting prospect I saw in the draft, #1 on my board.

How could Dummy Lueke only be hittin around .225 in three seasons? His ratings look much better than that. Could it be his patience is only 23?

It's because Seattle plays their home games inside a cave.

Haven't had a team ERA at home above 3.00+ since S32 so 8-9 straight seasons... yes we have good players, but .... the stadium is only -3-2-1-2-2 but in that S39 it played like -5-5-5-5-5

Wow Ballparks make a huge difference
6/16/2017 5:39 PM
Yep, Seattle. My other team is in Portland, it's even worse. You decide the style you want to play, and adjust your expectations. My teams usually hit around .240; if they get hot and start hitting .250 it's like bombs going off. Individually, hitting .280 or 35+ HRs is actually a great season for a hitter. The reverse - you can get great pitching from average pitchers. Lueke's going to walk in free agency first chance he gets, but thanks to that 23 Patience I knew that when I drafted him.
