Have a couple of scenarios where a recruit on my watchlist does not appear when running a new search. Should I continue to recruit this player or should I consider that recruit gone?

This is why you don't run searches for recruits until after the seasons flips over to the new one.

Would the players who disappeared be likely to become drop downs? Maybe they are just barely out of sight.

Uh Uh. If you cannot see them then you can not sign them.

The players do not drop down in vision.

Nope. If you're in D3, the only players you'll be able to sign are the players that show up in the D3 search.
