Looks like he confused Britain with Brazil.

Same thing guys, same thing!

In mikes defense he probably did even read the stuff that he copied and pasted.

Meh, I ****** up a few letters. Brazil, Britain, BENGHAZI!!!!!!, whatever. Had the year right.

Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, slavery wasn't abolished in "civilized" countries until 1888. 27 years after Lincoln started killing Americans.

Eh...? Victors write history.
8/16/2017 5:15 PM
Maybe. But it doesn't CHANGE what actually happened.
8/16/2017 5:16 PM
Of course not but it makes it OK. Like what happened to the Native Americans here is OK since again victors write history. Good/Bad is subjective.
8/16/2017 5:22 PM
I'll assume you haven't read the thread. I've RAILED against how we treated Native Americans in order to expand the US. I've used that as an example of how we were still a barbaric country even AFTER slavery was abolished. That's been the reason I am reluctant to scream "SLAVERY WAS IMMORAL AND HAD TO BE ABOLISHED IMMEDIATELY!!!" because that is a 2017 viewpoint not a 1860 frame of mind.
8/16/2017 5:27 PM
I am just saying in general victors like history. In the Soviet Union, Lenin and Stalin were the "heroes" cause they brought down the monarchy but in reality they were bad bad bad people. Had the Romanovs won, they would have been lauded for putting down a dangerous coup. All I am saying Mike, not taking shots at you here or anyone else.
8/16/2017 5:37 PM
And I'm saying the facts are the facts. History doesn't change based on a viewpoint.

Not to you but to many it does.
8/16/2017 5:50 PM
Well, yeah, that's why this thread is 43 pages long.
8/16/2017 5:51 PM
Would have been closer to 41 before I showed up! LOL

In "all" civilized countries. Although I'm not an expert on the history of Brazil so I have no idea what was going on there the 1800s. Or even what 'civilized" means in this context.

But you brought up a great point with your mistake. GB abolished slavery 30 years before USA. US was one of the last countries to do so.
