3. 16-17 players are here!
After a long wait, the 16-17 players have been released!!! This is the craziest single season I think I have ever seen in the database, but how will that translate to the ODL? Only one goes in the first round, but I'm guessing a few go in the 2nd. It's going to be hard to judge where some of these guys should go in their initial drafts.

I am considering the 16/17 version of Kawhi. Less rebounding, slightly lower shooting, similar Fs and TOs. Can defend PGs, 2 more points of usage, a tough more minutes, better assists.
I've drafted 2 16-17 players thus far... I will be using 16-17 Whiteside.. I agree with Benhoidal that the other 2 are better players- but 16-17 plays 31 mins/game at a decent salary... 16-17 is the best value for this league, imo.... I'm also using 16-17 Mike Conley... Only plays 28 mins/game- which is why he's a 4th rounder and not selected earlier... He will be drafted in the 4th or 5th in every ODL from here foward... 25 ast%, 26 usage%, 54+ efg% - 40+ 3pt% & 40+% of his shots are from 3, 61D, with low TOs & fouls. He's a slightly worse version of Terry Porter with more usage.... Or similar to Billups but with worse D, but better efg... He and 16-17 Kyle Lowry are very similar players and should be very close to each other on owners draft boards....

I'm just going to say that trading up to take Isaiah Thomas is never a good idea

I really did think someone was going to take him. 16-17 season is ridiculous. (And, you do realize that this is Celtics' Isaiah Thomas, not the Pistons' Isiah Thomas).

Yep. I know the difference. Isaiah is a 39 defender and his efg is very nice, but not truly elite, and his ast% is just 'meh' for a PG. I don't get why you'd trade up for him at all.

First, I needed the usage. Second, I had a feeling someone would want him. Third, his usage enables me to go for a low usage player for my off guard position. Fourth, 649 FTA's. he's a scoring machine

And, as Ben proved last season, Ast% isn't necessary if you have great rebounding.

thomas is no curry

id have to agree that trading up for him was questionable but i liked the pick a lot...perfect spot to try him out

16-17 really deepened the high usg guard pool...before i drafted brand i was all set to grab one of them in the 6th - a guy i doubt will even get drafted

590 FTM at 90% is pretty impressive... I wonder how many he'll actually get in the SIM tho. Most players with high FTA usually don't come anywhere close to hitting that mark in the SIM- But from my observations, players who attempt around 400 FTs usually meet that in the SIM... I drafted Barkley, so I'm hoping I'm wrong. I may not end up using the $10M Barkley tho... I might use the 2nd highest salary Barkley instead... Still pending

I see Eleib took Big O Miller. I had nabbed him undrafted for at least 2, maybe 3 seasons. I actually had planned to take him in the 6th this year. Was getting nervous someone would finally grab him. I like the pick, needless to say.

Yea he fit perfectly on what I'm trying to do. Figured not to take a chance in the 6th round

Been incredibly busy this weekend working on my masters thesis. I will have a fair amount of time tomorrow and will try to get completely caught up with everything. Don't worry guys, the evals will get done in full detail before the season starts!

Which statistics correlate the most with winning in the NBA. It's a fun one! I mostly contrast some of the new "advanced" stats with older per game stats and with each other. There's a lot more to it, but that's the gist.

What the hell was I thinking
The plan: keeping it 100

Rd1 Was hoping for Duncan to fall to me and then I was going to use his big dollar 100 d season but all of a sudden noticed Wade drifting down there – not a lot of PG 100% 100 d dudes in the database in fact there is only 1

Rd2 Yeah I know Timmy is right there but I just dropped 9.5m on Wade – it was a syllogistic decision in my mind 9.5 of one or the other guy but in retrospect I should have paired Timmy with Dwyane and abandoned my original plan and instead gone discount shopping the rest of the draft – instead I took Ben Wallace and kept it 100

Rd3* I have a half-baked theory that has to do with blocks – I looked for an SF 100 with high blk% and 100 D I found Ibaka – this was a mistake because for whatever reason I forgot that Bobby Jones (99% SF) was still out there. I realized my error almost immediately and then began the rule 7 kerfuffle of 2017 – are we better for it? I say yes but would my team be better off w Jones over Ibaka, sadly I say yes again

Rd4 Charlie Ward – here the keeping it 100 dream dies – there just aren’t a lot of 100 d guards – so seeing AK treacherously stolen from me* I chose to address some glaring needs

Rd5 my rd5 selection was really Okafor but one of the benefits of playing at the turn is you can kind of estimate what the next guy is going to do - looking at what uptown has going on I didn’t think he was going to take Emeka (he did not btw) so my decision was really down to Birdman or Tinsley each of whom would serve as a pretty good sub behind my short minute role players – uptown had no SFs at the time so I took Birdman as a D100 back up to Ibaka and then that bastard uptown freaking took Tinsley – what kind of world do we live in?

Rd6 so I got Emeka and then punted and got a decent big usage back-up to Wade
{And now my world in tatters around me, burning to ash…}

I have 7.5m to get another 4k minutes and I have a plan….

*a lot of bad things happened to my draft board prior to my selection in Rd3 – my dream of a Wade/AK47 backcourt being shattered by seapilots two picks ahead of me being the worst and possibly explains my poor decision making at this point (also I didn’t even use that Ibaka)
