The 80's, the decade of excess. Greed is good! NHL was no different. We had goals, and fights, and more goals, bad goaltending and more goals. The 70's League is the middle of the playoffs and has been a blast, so let's try it for the 80's. Goals are good!
The Rules:
Only players from 1980-81 season through 1988-89 season are eligible.
Games Played % must be 70% or higher, you cannot use any season where a player played less than 70% of the games.
Combined PIMS for your team must be 2,200 or higher (SCUBS DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS THIS TOTAL!) In other words, add up the PIMs for your top 18 players (12 forwards and 6 defensemen), the total must be 2,200 or higher.
Combined total D-Rating must be 1,200 or lower ( SCRUBS DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS THIS TOTAL!). In other words, add up the D-Rating for your top 18 players (12 forwards and 6 defensemen), the total must be 1,200 or lower.
All of your top 18 players must have a salary over $2M! This should keep teams from filling up on the cheap, high PIM guys!
Scrubs should be under $500K and must have at least 200 PIMs. You shouldn't really need to use them, but if you do, they are not going to help you. Also will keep people from circumventing the Top 18 players rule.
No restrictions on goalies other than they must be from the years 1980-81 to 1988-89
Salary Cap: $115M
No WW, ML, Trades or Shootouts.
No long lasting injuries or suspensions
No Clones
Two other rules: You can have either Gretzky or Lemieux but not both. You can have either Probert or Nilan, but not both.
Definitely not a cookie cutter league and if it's anything like the 70s league, it will be a blast!
Once the league is up and the salary set, I can set up blacklists to help weed the unavailable players. For the most part it seems to work on my initial team, so that should help make the drafting easier, Just need to count you team totals in PIMS and D-ratings.
Also, please name our team after one of your favorite 80's Albums
