Round 1 - Sound off Topic

I think I needed to make at least one world series, but all three of my LCS teams have fallen in a hole. Perhaps unsurprisingly as I was lucky to get this far...

'52 Robin Roberts has some odd playoff splits for me.

In 4 road starts: 4-0, 33.1 IP, 1.08 ERA, 0.96 WHIP
In 2 home starts (at the Astrodome): 0-1, 7 IP, 14.14 ERA, 2.71 WHIP

Up 3-1, we ****** it away...

one of my five playoff teams made the world series - ugh.

Down 4-0 in Game 6, the SIM brings in my Setup A. I had another Setup B and a Long A available. Now I don't have access to my best pitcher for Game 7. Absolutely ridiculous.

Ooph. That's rough.

I sent in a ticket. What's the criteria for using Setup A? IMO, there is no way a Setup A should ever come in when a team is down 4-0 when there are other options available. He's by far my best bullpen pitcher. If I lose Game 7 late, I won't be happy.

"The SimEngine decides which pitcher to use based on the situation, so it may not always be the one you'd prefer."

Awesome response from CS. What the hell is the purpose of designations then? If a Setup A is going to be brought in with my team down 4-0, with a Setup B and Long A available, what's the point of classifying them? No manager is going to waste their best pitcher down 4-0 in the 8th, knowing he's going to need him in a do-or-die game the next day.

I've yet to encounter a sim that can understand the concept of "tomorrow." Playoff managing just doesn't mesh well with a system that treats a World Series game like Game 43.

This sim sent my Setup A up to the plate in the bottom of the 8th trailing by 3 runs in a WS game, with 5 other pitchers available at 100%. I can't grasp that in any game, but in a WS game it's beyond bad.

In 2016 I finished 2 points out of the cage in 26th place. I accounted for my shortfall because of my record on the last day of the regular season which was 6 - 12. I wasn't trying to save my players for the playoffs it just happened so this year I decided to keep track of not only my daily but each session totals and here were the results.
Record Day Win Pct
5 W - 13 L 1 1.9%
6 W -12 L 3 5.6%
7 W - 11 L 6 11.1%
8 W - 10 L 5 9.3%
9 W -9 L 8 14.8%
10 W - 8 L 11 20.4%
11 W - 7 L 11 20.4%
12 W - 6 L 7 13.0%
13 W - 5 L 1 1.9%
15 W - 3 L 1 1.9%
54 100.0%
Record Wins Pct
6 W - 0 L 3 1.9%
5 W - 1 L 12 7.4%
4 W - 2 L 56 34.6%
3 W - 3 L 52 32.1%
2 W - 4 L 26 16.0%
1 W - 5 L 10 6.2%
0 W - 6 L 3 1.9%
162 100.0%

Even though I sagged at the end going 16 and 20 over the last two days, I had a longer look at the year. As schwarze has said many times the goal should be 10 - 8 each day to make 540 so with an average playoff run you should make the cage. I only had 15 out of the 54 days where I had less than a .500 record. So with winning 520 games, 1 play-in win and 58 bonus points (10.5 less than PAR for 5 playoff teams) I was able to qualify for the lower middle of the cage. Doing this ongoing analysis helped to keep me grounded throughout the season especially when I took those 10 (1 Win - 5 Loss), and 3 (0 Wins - 6 Loss) sessions.
The other thing I noticed my negative days were kind of clumped together in 6 two or three day periods over the course of the season. I guess the randomizer on those days didn't mesh with my managerial style. I didn't notice fatigue or home or away series contributing to the outcomes.

Jake Arrieta opened the TOC for my Variable Cap team with a perfect game. I've never seen any of my pitchers throw even a no-hitter before.

Congratulations! I don't remember having one of my pitchers throw a no hitter either.

I have had a few of my pitchers throw a no hitter over the years but I can't recall any being a perfect game.

It happens, but very rare in the TOC (against, presumably, the best of the best). Congrats

It seems like 23 of the league spreadsheets have been posted, but a lot of them are missing a lot of details. For instance, the spreadsheet for 5-A (MLB119329) just has the standings in it. And a bunch of other leagues have random things included or missing.

I should probably just send in a ticket on this, but does anyone remember if this is something that gets fixed eventually, or are the spreadsheets going to just be messed up unless someone actively fixes them?
