Round 1 - Sound off Topic

In the 90mil league I am in a division with the 3rd and 6th highest ranked owners currently among everyone in that theme. That's pretty unlucky.

Interestingly, 3 of the bottom 4 teams overall are also in your league... maybe inflating some W-L records of those top teams?

doesn't fit my narrative schwarze.

For anyone who is interested in giving the 90M theme a shot with a few changes (deadball years only, 300K exception allowed, no combined-season player rule) feel free to enter a team in MLB119886

It's baffling to me how Bob Gibson has struggled so much, especially pitching at Petco. 6-11 with a 4.47 ERA and 1.48 WHIP on the season, including 5-7 3.74 ERA and 1.34 WHIP at home. Maddux, Koufax and Kershaw are putting up much stronger numbers at home (and they're 1, 2 and 4 respectively overall in WHIP in that league).

Another 1-5 session. I bet I have more 1-5's than 3-3's

Three straight. A fine 3-15 day.

After having three 6-0's in the first three days, I have not had one since.

I love my $100mm team. I thought it would be my best team from the start (as stated in the poll and strategy write-ups). At 46-26 they have not disappointed. The are also the only Phillies (1897-1906) team of the 96 teams entered at this salary cap in the entire tourney

With no gimme cheap player exceptions allowed, I was only able to fit this team under the cap using 5 pitchers under $620,000 salary because of few position player options; This "bullpen" collection consists of:

1898 Bill Duggleby $618k RL whip = 1.63 RL OBP = .313 RL ERC+ = 62
1902 Warren McLaughlin $586k 1.38 .267 83
1898 Chick Fraser $586k 1.45 .290 76
1906 Harry Kane $517k 1.64 .255 61
1899 Al Maul $250k 1.58 .321 75

In order to keep my regular pitchers fresh this "special teams unit" is occasionally called on to collectively Take One For The Team.

However:

In the 9/2 pm2 game, to rest the regulars, the special teamers were the only "active" pitchers and combined to throw a 4 hit shutout:
McLaughlin gave up 2 hits in 5 innings, Fraser gave up 2 hits in 3 innings and Maul pitched the last inning allowing 0 hits.

In the 9/4 pm2 game, the regular pitchers needed some more rest and the manager tried to catch lightning in a bottle a second time.
The result: a 2 hit shutout this time!!
Duggleby pitched 5 innings and gave up 2 hits (and hit a grand slam), Fraser pitched the last 4 innings allowing 0 hits.

I have no doubt that this experience will be my absolute WISC highlight in 2017 but am happy to have had at least one.

Tried this formula again in pm game today. Going against 1908 Ed Walsh. The result: Phillies 4, White Sox 0. 6 hit shutout this time

McLaughlin 5 innings, Duggleby 3 innings, Fraser 1 inning.

Definitely want to be reading that stuff as all my teams collectively tank at once...oh Mariano Rivera loses 5 games in 7 appearances., neat, Andrew miller allows a 800ft walk off to a 1 homer dead ball hitter, Jake arrietta forgettaboutit! Oh but my Ruth, Greenberg, shoeless joe lineup goes 1,2,3 against a 65% Derek Lowe, got it.....the "realism" gets a little too real sometimes...

Pretty much. I get there's always a chance of certain things happening, but some things seem to happen far too much in WIS, based on a player's actual stats. One thing that annoys the hell out of me is the frequency with which a solid closer will have two outs and a lead in the ninth with the bases empty, and then the other team scores multiple runs. It seems the majority of my blown saves happen this way.

My personal favourite though was Andrew Miller giving up a two-out, two-run walkoff homer to a lefty with a #1HR/100AB, in -3/-3 Petco.
