Curious. . . .in past years, for the top 24 teams who advanced to round 2, how many teams (on average) did they put in the playoffs in round 1?

I'm asking for a friend.

Last year the average was 4.125.

The average for spots 13-24 was 3.75, and 1-12 was 4.5

One thing I'd like to do is weight the predicted playoff points by ranking (since, theoretically, owners who are ranked higher will exceed the average of 13.5 more often than lower ranked owners). Haven't had time to do that yet but would improve predictions at this stage of things.

Do you think owner ranking or wins would be better predictor of playoff success? My guess is that it is way too random to make any useful predictions, and we should stick with 13.5/team, but maybe there is something in the historical record to tell us.

I need to dig into historical data before adding anything. I would bet that historical playoff success likely has a decent correlation with success here. Less confident about ranking but we'll see what the data says

The consistency of my teams is likely going to cost me. 2 get close to a playoff spot while two fade away...then the first two fade, and the second two go on a run to get back into playoff contention...then they yo-yo again. I have 4 solid teams that are 2-4 games out. If I don't get at least 2 of those in, I'm probably hooped. At this point, I'd rather two finish the season hot and two tank, than to have all 4 balance each other out.

How many of the Top 24 advancing to Round 2 are typically outside of the Top 24 before Round 1 playoffs begin?

It would easy enough to look through the old forum posts, but just based off memory, I would say that roughly 1/3 of those advancing out outside the top 24. But in many cases, a bunch of players ranked 25-30 fall within that 1/3 number.

A better question is how many outside the top 30 make it to round 2. And again, based on memory, this number is usually in the 20-25% range (4 to 6).

Last year I was 1st or 2nd after the regular season and bombed out in the playoffs winning only one series. In this tournament I don't normally build teams for the playoffs, the regular season is tough enough. Those who build teams with the playoffs in mind will put a damper on the statistics mentioned.
