I know you want, desperately, to have non-con scheduling matter but it hasn't. You schedule wins, you increase your chances of being in the playoffs. You schedule tough games, and lose, you decrease your chances of being in the playoffs. It's not a magic formula.

I'd love to see some previous season conference champs match-up in weeks 1-2. GA/USC, OK/OSU, Clemson/UCF(as best on non-P5) or something like that. Hell, throw in another one. Bama/Boise, WI/TCU, Stanford/Miami. Let it be a yearly thing where those games MUST be played in either week 1, 2 or 3.

But the schools don't want that. It's not how to make the playoffs.

The committee appears to look at losses before anything else. OSU having two losses allowed them to say they were not comparable to one-loss ALA.

With one loss, the committee likely considers them comparable and OSU's conference championship gives them the tie-breaker.
But that is nonsense since the additional loss being discussed was to the #2 team and thus the 4th or 5th ranked team should reasonably lose that game. If Alabama is better than 11-2 Ohio State with losses to #2 OU and a terrible loss to Iowa, then Alabama should also be better to a 12-1 Ohio State with that same terrible loss to Iowa and replacement of the loss to #2 with a win over a MAC team (like Akron).

Remember the committee is tasked with finding the 4 best teams, not the 4 teams with the best resume.

So you don't care about wins and losses? Stop it. Just stop it.

You're right. Alabama is still better than a 12-1 OSU with a blow out against Iowa. Alabama doesn't lose to crappy teams, much less get man handled by them. In fact, Alabama has beat their last 71 unranked opponents.

But Mike is also right. A 1 loss P5 champ OSU gets in over Bama.

That doesn't make any sense though.

Which part?

The committee wants the best 4 teams, and I think Alabama has showed that they are more dominant, but not convincingly enough to put them in over a 1 loss conference champ OSU. If OSU beats Oklahoma (or Akron or whoever) they would go. OSU has a strong enough reputation that they would get in.

UGA is absolutely killing recruiting on paper. 6 five stars and 14 four stars. The irony is Richt gets canned and goes to Miami. 6 of UGA's commits are from Miami. Smart steals the man's job and now he's stealing his players.

First major bowl today but good start by Big Ten at 3-0. Pac 12 a god awful 1-5 thus far.

Yeah, crap bowl wins. Wouldn't put much stock in those wins.

KY/Northwestern should be a good SEC/B10 match-up. They're probably 5th-6th best in each conference.

Sorry for asking, but can someone please tell me which of the remaining Bowl games really matter and which ones don't? I seem to have lost the list.

What's that, if the team Mike wants to win wins, then it matters, but if the team Mike wants to win loses, then it doesn't matter? Doesn't seem to make sense, but I got it now.

Let's be real. Nobody gives a crap about a couple of 6-6 teams battling out.

There have been some good games but, yeah, when a team is playing to avoid a losing record, it's hard to get excited. Did enjoy the Navy blowout. The option is a lot of fun to watch when it's done well. Stanford/TCU was a good one as well.

The general public doesn't, but the teams and fans involved sure do. A friend played football at a Big 12 school, and went to a couple "lesser" Bowls during his years there. I guarantee not a player, or coach, and very few fans took those games any less serious than they did the "major" Bowl games they went to the other seasons.

I agree with that, but I think in this discussion you have to look at it through the lens of the general public.
