movies i would like to see :

1. godfather 4
2. next installment of veronica mars
3. next installment of robt downey sherlock holmes
4. new james bond with young actor 24 origin story
5. kick *** -3 & hit girl
6. a campy batman & robin movie series
7. meet the old fockers
8. mr ed
9. wiseguy
10. next installment of man from uncle
Blazing Saddles 2

Nobody in Hollywood would have the balls to do it but I laugh just thinking about it.
No way you could ever top, or even come close to the original Blazing Saddles. A sequel would almost definitely be a disappointment.

Reminds me of this exchange from a Seinfeld episode (I'm going from memory here):

Jerry: "It's like that Twilight Zone where the guy wakes up and he's the same but everyone else is different."

George: "Which one was that?"

Jerry: "Oh, they're all like that."

No argument...but if it was half as funny as the original, it would be the best comedy of the decade.

THE MONSTERS ARE NOW ON MAPLE STREET

1. SOPHIE'S CHOICE
2. AMERICAN HISTORY X
3. SCHINDLER'S LIST
4. THE PAWNBROKER
5. THE BOY IN THE PINSTRIPED PAJAMAS
6. THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK
I assume this is a reference to The Twilight Zone (the monsters are due on maple street.)

Favorite The Twilight Zone episodes, anyone?

Much of what Mel Brooks touched was golden. Young Frankenstein is an example.

I've never seen Life Stinks, but I recently saw High Anxiety for the first time, Mel's parody/homage to Hitchcock. Was only okay, a few chuckles here and there (and I say that as a big Hitchcock fan who was ready to laugh).

True, but that's not a very high bar to reach. Although my favorite comedy of the decade was probably the Hangover (the first.. the next two were pretty bad). When I first saw it my thought was that it was the funniest movie I had seen in a long time. Of course there are probably other comedies in the last decade that were good, but I can't think of any I felt were great. I am probably forgetting a couple though.

Sadly, I agree. If I listed my favorite comedies, the "newest" would be from 1975 (Monty Python and the Holy Grail.)

Just our of curiosity, did you not like The Hangover? I thought it was great, but I know it is not everybody's taste.
and Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a fantastic movie!
"what's your favorite color?"
"Blue, no, yellow...ahhhhhhh"

I've never seen in. Maybe I'll rent it and see what I have missed.

I don’t want to talk to you nomore, you empty-headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.

You guys aren't kidding about the dearth of quality comedy movies in the past decade. I tried to think of some and it was tough. There were some good ones in the 2004-2008 range but it's dried up since.

One movie that made me laugh in recent years was Mr. Kaplan (youtube trailer) out of Uruguay, which I saw on a plane a few summers ago. The main character's got a hilarious South American Larry David vibe going on. Funny film, some decent plot twists, nicely shot. Also turned me on to the music of Serge Gainsbourg thanks to this song that appears in it. I recommend it, but I have no idea where you'd find it.
