wow about allen freed.....and i hate rap too...i call it crap.....it also shrunk the pool for great jazz.
When I first started listening to him it was called "race music". Also it was confined to the extreme left of the radio dial. no idea what the significance of that was but considering how my political views matured it would be entertaining to think on

I agree totally with your list. I am just a bit more of a Rolling Stones fan then Beattles maybe

they are definitely not in order except that the beatles and the stones are the top 2 in any list....in 1977 the new wave/punk explosion happenned and that would change my rock and roll station.

Aqualung! I loved that song. I wore that album out on my record player. Now I can't bring myself to listen to Tull, it sounds so cheesy and heavy-handed to me.
I beg to differ. Aqualung is still a great album. Better than most of what is produced today.

I played drums in a crappy band as well. I was a halfway decent drummer. Kept a steady beat but didn't get too fancy. Our main claim to fame was we shared a few stages with Twisted Sister. I thought we were actually better than them, but we didn't stick cucumbers (personally a cucumber would have been redundant for me) down our pants or wear makeup.

love Dire Straits! Mark Knopfler may be my favorite guitar player of all time! (I also highly recommend Richard Thompson..different style of guitar playing, but the man can play)

No doubt Aqualung is better than most of what is produced today. Just not my cup of tea anymore. But "Aqualung" (the song) and "Locomotive Breath" are good hard rock, I can't deny that. It's their more over-the-top rock opera stuff that really turns me off.

Also, Ian Anderson was the inspiration for the Ron Burgundy flute-playing gag in The Anchorman. Have to give him some credit for that.

Ian Anderson is/was a very strange dude. Saw Tull in concert a few times and he always acted somewhat bizarre.

I saw them once, around 1983-84. They weren't at their peak, and that was around the time I stopped buying their records altogether. It was an okay concert, though. They played what people wanted to hear.
