GUESS updated for Hayes but not Camp... maybe just a little behind?
No, Camp didn't download for some reason. Re-running it now.

In Leahy the current NC in D1A was ranked 17th in GUESS.

And I am still proud of that

With good reason. That is seriously impressive!

I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often at D1-A, to be honest. Scheduling and coaching make such a big difference at that level.

I sounds like D1-A may create a bigger challenge for Guess ranking but at the D2 level which is the only level I am now familiar with and was the subject of my research the ball keeps rolling in the favor of the higher ranked teams according to Guess. To update three more worlds have completed seasons since last report and both in Stagg and Warner the #1 rank team took home the trophy while in Leahy it was the #2 ranked team.

Just goes to show that recruiting is 90% of this game.

Not entirely true. Game planning is just as important, if not more when you get to the playoffs/bowl games. I've gotten into lengthy discussions about this and have been very vocal that I believe too many around here think too highly of recruiting. I can dig those posts back up for you if you like.

The numbers speak for themself. If you're not TOP 6 in the GUESS ratings you have little to no chance of winning a NC in a playoff setting.

Suit yourself.
Yost D1AA current NC was ranked #8 in Guess. (Also my team)
I would listen to bhaz and orangepace. Successful experienced coaches. And my two last NCs directly refute your argument.
Just sayin.

I think the higher you go, the more of an effect coaching has. I also would not be surprised (although I haven't looked) if the difference between the top 15 teams was closer in D1A than D1AA, which is closer than D2/D3. The difference being at D2/D3 the top teams have greater vision, allowing them to see better players. The rich get richer. In the higher divisions, where everyone has basically the same set of recruits to fight over, coaching (including both game planning and practice plans) has a correspondingly greater role.
