The BBWAA did know how to use the English language. The fact that you and tec and Mike don't doesn't make their utilization of the language incorrect.

The word "outstanding," aside from the sense of "current," e.g. an outstanding debt, was extremely uncommon in the early 20th century. Why would they use a word that nobody understood instead of a word that everyone understood? The problem is that the utilization of language changes in 100 years. We're basically arguing about whether the original meaning or the original wording is more relevant to modern voting.
This is hilariously funny.

After mocking Perfessor dahs for his repeated lectures on grammar, language and the dictionary meaning of words in a baseball discussion, he counters with a post about language and the dictionary meaning of words.

You can't make this **** up.

Either he's even dumber and less self-aware than PSBL, or he is the forums biggest troll.

Perfessor, what is the Latin root of the word "troll"?

To me, a player is either the best player in the league or he isn't. What his teammates do doesn't change that.

Voting for someone who isn't the best player makes no sense.
yes, that may be true, but the award is the most VALUABLE player, not the best player. You are entitled to your opinion, but I think voting for the best player in the league if he's on the worst team in the league doesn't make any sense.

Why do you think the award isn't named "Most Bestest Player"?
because he was there when the named the award. The guys who named the award never thought anyone would not know that the MVP award should go to the best player. What are you, dense?

I probably would have given it to Votto, but I think he was just a hair more valuable than Stanton, so I'm cool with this.
