I understand he's a lefty but his ratings don't seem to justify a career 5.5 ERA with 500+ innings under his belt. And the more frustrating part is that he always faces the other teams Vs. righty lineup since I put him at TandemB with a righty as his TandemA or he comes out of the pen as a SuA. In a neutral park, 0's across the board. Defense is in the 10-15 range in rank.

This guy is very similar in ratings and his career ERA is 4.1. Not sure how much KC's park plays into that. Less homers but more hits.

Any thoughts? I've been scratching me head the past few seasons.

Its difficult to comment when he isn't a starter. He pitches 42 games, has 2 really good innings, then gets into trouble with 2 outs and the bases loaded, the coach pulls him for Joe Replacement who has a better VsR and is a righty who gives up a grand slam and Valenzuela is on the hook for 4 that he had nothing to do with.

I'd honestly have him start, drop the pitch count and try to have him start the season as much as possible. I'm surprised with Stamina in the 70's and a durability over 25 that he hasn't had a 200 inning season yet.

My guess is "yes" but I'd be hard-pressed to find one. After 2 1/2 seasons of remarkably consistent, yet bad, results, I likely stopped pitching my guy before he reached 500 innings.

I'd ship that guy. I'm sure you could get an excellent return. Someone will pay for him.

I'd make him a starter and ride him hard like hockey says. That tandem stuff I only use in the playoffs.

I don't see much difference, ratings - wise. And this guy has played his whole career in Montreal

Having said that, I prefer to field a top notch defensive team, but Montreal being a fairly strong hitter's park should make up the difference.

I wonder if this might be a case where a high pitch calling catcher helps. I’ve got no evidence but his 3,4,5 pitches aren’t great and maybe a good catcher would help.

How does a catcher with a bad pitch call rating show up in the box score? Would it be possible that it manifests itself by excessive walks? I have an offensive catcher with lower 50s PC and have had several games when pitchers with 80+ control have walked 6 batters.

pjfoster... that's a great explanation. That's been my experience also. I do wonder if certain types of pitchers get an added benefit too,

Is there any explanation for pitchers with control in the 80s or even low to mid 90s to walk 5-6 guys per start? Am I just facing teams stacked of Joey Votto type players and they all have an exceptional eye?

Question 1 - What pitcher is walking 5 guys a start with over an 80 rating for control?
Question 2 - How many starts has he done this in?
Question 3 - If the number of starts exceeding 11 or 12? If so why is he getting another start after 10?

Unless every guy on the opposing team has contact and eye north of 80 this shouldn't be happening.
