well, the people who are calling for him to be fired are jerks. McHale can support whoever he wants, regardless of how stupid you or me think it is.
Unfortunately, the people who are jerks, even if their numbers are relatively small, get magnified and highlighted by social media, traditional media coverage, political activist groups, etc. to make it appear as a popular rising of public opinion. Businesses cut ties with the sacrificial lamb just to avoid bad publicity and, meanwhile, people's lives are being destroyed.
