TY GoMiami for the lesson on Anthropology/Archeology Science. I appreciate the knowledge. And I understand the limits of scientific knowledge.
NONE of that has anything to do with actually how old/long the Hopi's have been around. We KNOW some of that evidence as fact. WE CAN carbon date things these days. The Hopi village of Oraibi is KNOWN to have been established between 900 -- 1000 AD. It is KNOWN to be the oldest continuously inhabited settlement on the Continent. Here is a quote from other scholars on the Hopi:
The Hopi “regard themselves as the first inhabitants of America,” and “their village of Oraibi is indisputably the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the United States.” For many other Native Americans too, the Hopis are perceived as worthy of such a description. A book entitled Hopi, and penned by Suzanne and Jake Page, says that other Native Americans regarded them as “the oldest of the people.”
So, while your response is not to be argued with as it is technically correct, I suppose. It still doesn't address the point I tried to make.
That point was that, The Jews aren't the only people who remain from the "time" of Abraham. I was just trying to point out that other cultures existed as early as the Biblical tales and are still with us.
I just don't believe that humanity began on this globe with the white Judeo-Christian culture. Nor do I believe that the Jewish people are/were the only peoples horribly persecuted. The Jewish were NOT the only people dispersed thru the globe who remain. Many global populations as ancient as the Jewish still exist today. MOST of them non human.
I didn't even touch the Abraham part because I assumed that was directed towards doug. I would guess that there are many cultures that can trace their roots to pre-written history.
I get what you are trying to say. I fought the Anthropology Wars in graduate school so I have first-hand knowlegde of the struggle. Far too many disciplines get labeled as "science" because there is a certain cachet attached to the designation.
Everything that you wrote is theory, not fact. If there is one fact it is probably this - Oraibi has been continuously inhabited since at least 900-1000 A.D. Beyond that it is all inference. The continent is a very large place. Nobody knows if there are settlements which have been continuously inhabited for a longer period because we haven't bothered to conduct a continent-wide archaeological study to determine such a "fact" as that. In logic, the fallacy is called a hasty generalization.
So, legend becomes truth and the "science" of Anthropology laughs on.
