Are 390 foot home runs worth more than 450 foot home runs?
Begging the question. Changing his approach will likely result in less home runs, not shorter home runs.
how do you know that? There's no way to know that until he does it.
No one knows for sure. What I do know is that Judge hit 50+ home runs with a 422 OBP. Why **** with that on the hope that maybe making more contact improves it? He had one of the top 2 or 3 offensive seasons in 2017.
he also struck out 200+ times. Why not try to lower that number a little?

BL's taking a dump right now, and has asked me to fill in for him until he's done.

"Would you prefer he make his outs a different way?"

Barry Bonds made 321 outs in 2001. Maybe he should have changed his approach to lower that number a little?

Judge.... 200+ K

Bonds... 90+ K

Not even remotely similar but good job sticking with your goofy *** argument.

Didn't Mike Trout, after an MVP or MVP-like, season say "I'm going to work on cutting down my strikeouts"?

Are you also smarter than Mike Trout when it comes to his approach?
He did say that and I guarantee he meant he was trying to get more hits. He wasn’t trying to trade Ks for ground outs.
So Judge shouldn't try to do the same thing?
BL?

Obviously all hitters should try to make less outs. Now we’re away from “an out is an out” and on to arguing about whether or not there’s a trade off with a different approach.

There is.

Maybe it’s worth it for Judge to change his approach, but I don’t see a huge upside there. He on-based 422. He slugged over 600. Trading away power for more contact seems foolish.

Now, if he can somehow make more contact while maintaining his power, sweet. He’d be Barry Bonds.

I'm pretty sure players rarely try to make outs (sacrifice bunts are about the only situation I can think of) so how can they try to make less outs when they don't try to make any outs in the first place?

Dammit wylie, don't confuse him. His head is likely to explode.

Wait, are you now arguing that hitters can't implement changes to their approach to try to get better results?
11/6/2017 12:57 PM
Actually, that's been your dumbass position. Have you once again forgotten what position your arguing in your haste to argue simply for the sake of doing so?

Hold on a sec.

I think we both agree that Trout saying he wanted to cut down on his strikeouts did not mean he wished to pop out more. Right? He felt, I hope we can agree again, that more contact would give him more opportunities to be on base. Ended up, he was right. Strikeouts down, OPS up.

So is there a legit reason Judge wouldn't feel the same way? A reason he wouldn't think more contact equals more opportunities to be on base? Or are you actually saying he shouldn't try to be better? Because, if you are, that's kinda dumb.

WRT Trout, what years are we comparing when you say "strikeouts down, OPS up?"

I'm assuming the season after he said "I want to cut down on strikeouts" but, truthfully, I don't know. I just assumed tec knew what he was talking about. I didn't look it up.

So you don't know if he cut his K's and improved his OPS?

Assuming tec knows what he is talking about is a scary assumption.

Dude. Is. Dumb.
