1988 team: P Randy Johnson! -- Taken Topic

We are approaching game 120, and the draft will start off the clock soon, on the clock on November 13th. The long-running Real Life Progressive league is looking for a new Braves owner. The 1988 team has three strong starters in Darling, Show and LaPoint (all over 200IPs), and should be highly competitive. P John Burkett will join the team in 1990, after coming off the DL. This team looks like a lock for the #1 pick, so Burkett will eventually pair up with Randy Johnson! The lineup is just average, but that starting staff sets you up for the long haul.

This progressive league is like most, except that any player who started his career in a season is available to be drafted that season in the first round. In other words, in 1988, P Kurt Schilling can be drafted -- but he is not WIS eligible until 1990. A prospect (we keep a separate draft list to make it easy) joins any players you have on the DL/IR until he is WIS eligible. If you select a prospect in the 1st round (meaning someone who first played in 1988, but wasn't WIS eligible), you can pick up your 25th player in the supplemental draft round, which occurs after the normal draft is finished. The rest is pretty standard, with 4 AAA that you select from the 1988 season, and a DH is used in the AL.

This team's pitching going into the draft: 1227IP, 1.22/.249/3.30. In real life, the average WHIP was 1.31 and the ERA was 3.72.

The draft is underway, and Randy Johnson was selected. Atlanta has an excellent crop of starting pitching for 1988, while 1989 looks like a rebuilding year. Then 1990 looks good as Johnson has his first high IP year, and John Burkett comes up to join the team, joined by Ron Darling and Mike Flanagan. You can focus the rest of the 1988 draft on hitters, and 1989, the rebuilding year, can also build towards that.

We remain off the clock until Monday the 13th.
