At what point do you start rotating out players during the season? My team is 51-26 this year and I don't want to interrupt a good thing, but some of my top players are down to 91%. I got burned in another league where my top players were down to 88% and they stunk it up in the playoffs. How do you balance it?

Whoa! 77 games in and you've got guys at 91%?

I rest guys at 98-99% up until around game 130. Then, if I'm fighting for a playoff spot, they can rest when they die. It sounds like you've got some guys who should be platooning or, at the very least only playing 3 of every 4.

I do the opposite. I play my guys until I am garenteed a playoff spot or a bye. Then I rest em......... but probably don't listen to me. If my guys are 90% plus I say they are fine.

It's an injury thing for me. Virtually every minor leaguer I lose is 97% or below when injured. Not willing to risk that in the bigs.

I can get behind that frame of thinking.

In most cases, I take the lazy route and order my lineup by DUR and adjust accordingly for platoon situations (except SS and maybe CF, they're almost always batting 8th/9th).

My bench is usually a defensive C and/or backup gloves/platoon players. So I use defensive replacements, and player rest during blowouts for or against. With the right attention to sub hierarchies, you get the subs some games or at-bats, and starters shouldn't go below 97% till very late in the season. Only place I run into trouble is usually in the minors where I forget to set a backup DH... one day you look and your DH is down to 88%.

Just to be clear, under the player rest section, I should be listing the starter there that needs rest and not the backup that is replacing him, right?
11/11/2017 1:49 PM
No, list the backup that you want to come into that position.

Why does it take so long to recover? Even if a guy is at 90 percent, 5 days off in a row should get him back to 100. Kind of silly. I recently noticed a guy on another roster was down to 81. he has sat for 9 games in a row and is still only at 87.

It's a "work around" to get a real-life result. Very few players play 160. Not many more play 150.

If you get a guy don't to 81%, rest him for 9, get him back to 100%. odds are you play him the rest of the season. 153 games when he's "designed" to play 125.

A quick look at my teams says players with 85+ DUR can get 600 ABs / 160 games. 75+ = 500 ABs/ 150 games. 70 or below you have to figure 140 games max.

At what point? Game 1, really.

I carry 13-14 position players typically, and they all have a role. Even if I have 3 or 4 or 5 guys I consider to be "everyday players" I still have a target number of innings in the field and/or plate appearances for them, and I rest them regularly throughout the season to keep them on pace.
I do this too.

In my brief time playing HBD, it seems a lot of people tend to think the players are nearly indestructible in terms of injury and durability no matter what their ratings. I prefer to err on the side of caution and rest before they tire and hope they don't become fatigued or injured.
11/13/2017 4:41 PM
I look at durability rating as the percentage of games a player can start. For example, if a player has a DUR rating of 90, he can start 0.9 x 162 or 146 games. 80 DUR would start 130 games. The remaining games they are available to come in off the bench Using this formula most starters get into 155-160 games and I rarely have anyone under 100% at the end of the season. One does need to rest a few of the starters earlier in the season cause you can not rest all of them at the end of the season.

Their fielding position also factors into how quickly they "degrade". I've had a 100 DUR 1B bat cleanup in all 162 games and stay at 100%. Not sure if a 100 DUR SS could hit lead-off for all 162 games and remain at 100%.
