Guaranteed starts vs red shirting Topic

If you guarantee a start freshman year how does that relate to redshirting? Can you redshirt them and start them year 2 and that count as "freshman start" ???

I suppose the same question for the guarantee start for sophomore year in relation to redshirting.

No. If you guarantee a freshman start, they must start that season or they will have a major WE decrease (20+ pts) If you intend to redshirt, then you can only offer a sophomore start.

I imagine because whatever playing time you promise won't be fulfilled since you would be redshirting him, leading to a significant WE decrease and cutting into the potential redshirt season growth?

Doesn't work the same as Promised Starts. That's all I will say.
