Wilkinson Hall of Fame Nominees - November Cycle Topic

Greetings gentlemen!

The HoF committee has been hard at work in selecting this quarter's nominees for the Wilkinson Hall of Fame, joining Pete, EZ, Bkdries and OP. We made a slight change this cycle, and have recduced the number of nominees from 5 to 3, in order to increase the prestige of just being nominated. And after you look at the bios of our candidates below, I think you will see how hard it is to select the winner.

Below are the bios to help you decipher which coach is the most deserving of being elected. To vote, simply send a sitemail to Chetty1963 with the coach of your choice by Monday, November 27th at 10pm EST.

Congrats to the nominees!

Cfbfan18: Cfbfan18 receives his third nomination for the Wilkinson Hall of Fame. We all enjoy Cfbfan’s rants from time to time in the forums, and he is definitely not shy about voicing his opinion or challenging the status quo. Theatrics can make this game interesting and Cfbfan can certainly bring it, whether in the forums or on the podcasts.

What many may not know is that he can disengage from the game, especially during softball season. He even went so far as to find himself “In Jeopardy” at Notre Dame a few seasons ago. Disappointing seasons caused him to find himself on the outside looking in, when the coveted Penn State job was available. But, one thing is for sure, Cfbfan can bring it and step on the gas pedal, when it’s necessary. Since that time, his Irish have finished in the top 10 three of the last four seasons, won the Fiesta Bowl twice, won the Big Ten once and lost in the National Championship game (S134). Say what you will about the lull between S129 – S132, but he is definitely back in the national spotlight.

Cfbfan has spent 35 seasons at his two most recent stops in D1A, Florida and Notre Dame, and counting. During that time, Cfbfan has painted his resume with a record of 381-95, 12 Conference Championships and 4 National Championships in 7 appearances. Keep in mind, winning CC’s is no ordinary feat in the Big 10, given he faces and has faced the likes of coaches like Roxy11, Nortonis, Tkechub and now Lyonzfan!

Prior to his D1 run, Cfbfan spent 28 seasons at Dartmouth. During his time there, he built Dartmouth into a national power, compiling a record of 404-54. He won his first National Title there in Season 31, and from won 3 of 4 (all of which he appeared in) from Seasons 35-38. In total, he won 6 National Championships at Dartmouth and 14 Conference Championships. His 14 Conference Championships at Dartmouth still stands as the most by any single coach in the history of the Ivy League.

Cfbfan18's resume:

· Overall Record: 892-222 -- Win %: 80.1% / NC's: 10 (14 app's) / CC's: 27
· D1A Record: 431-145 -- Win %: 74.8% / NC's: 4 (7 app's) / CC's: 12
· D1AA Record: 404-54 -- Win %: 88.2% / NC's: 6 (7 app's) / CC's: 14

Gators06: Gators06 continues to have the longest standing record for nominations for the Wilkinson Hall of Fame, receiving his 4th consecutive nomination. Over the last 4 seasons, Gators has added four more top ten finishes, and 4 more conference championships and a record of 65-4, with his only four losses coming in the playoffs. His last national championship was in S130, but he had won 3 of the last 5, leading up to that point. As expected, he’s got St. Joseph’s poised for another run at the NC this season.

Gators has now been terrorizing the Wilkinson world for over 60 seasons now. The move to D2 came in Season 82, taking over St. Joseph's, where he has been ever since. Upon arriving at St. Joseph's, the school was coming off a 5 season run totaling 13-53; a 19.7% win ratio. That first season, Gators choreographed St. Joseph's to a 9-5 record and a playoff bid. The next 3 seasons saw continual growth from the team as the losses dropped to 4, 4 and 3. The following season, Gators led St. Joseph's to a 17-1 record and their first trip to the Final Four. St. Joseph's hasn't looked back since, as they’ve never lost more than one game in a season in the last 47 seasons. Considering the growth within the Wilkinson world, and the recent influx of some serious coaching talent in D2, this is an incredible feat. For most, one loss seasons are a high water mark, but for Gators, it’s just another day of the office.

Gators06 won his first NC at St. Joseph’s in S91, and from then on, has been no stranger to the NC picture, having appeared in the game a total of 18 times and winning 10 of those. One particular period of note spanned Season 100 through 113, a total of 14 seasons. During this period, Gators appeared in 11 NC's and won 7 times. Since S113, he has appeared in 7 more NC's; winning 4 more. Such sustained success is impressive in any world, but extremely special that it occurred in Wilkinson.

Gators06 resume:

· Overall Record: 980-76 -- Win %: 92.8% / NC's: 12 (20 app's) / CC's: 49
· D2 Record: 911-62 -- W%: 93.6% / NC's: 12 (20 app's) / CC's: 49

Miami_jefe: Jefe receives his 3rd nomination for the Wilkinson Hall of Fame. Jefe remains the only coach nominated for enshrinement into the Wilk HOF based on a D3 resume. Jefe's resume is like that of a play. Act #1 saw his teams collect a record of 384-93; a 80.5% win ratio. During the first act, Jefe collected 17 conference championships and lose in the only national title game appearance. Jefe then took a hiatus from the Wilkinson world for more than 40 seasons. During the intermission, Miami_jefe elevated his game to an elite level. Act #2 saw Jefe return to Wilkinson D3. During this second act, Jefe ran off 19 national championship wins, in 21 total appearances, over the 34 seasons. That means he was in the NC two out of every three seasons, and won the NC 56% of the seasons.

Act 3 brought a quick stop at Virginia Union, where he went 27-4 in two seasons. This new phase continues at Florida International, where he is in his first season of a rebuild and has planned to set down roots to build FIU to a D1AA power.

Before the title run at Menlo, Miami_jefe began in Wilkinson in season 29 with Ohio Wesleyan. He spent 27 seasons there, building Ohio Wesleyan into a power. He amassed a record of 314-84, with 12 Conference Championships and 1 National Title appearance. While he wasn't able to bring the school their first national title victory, he did elevate the program enough to make the title game once. He then took his show on the road, landing at Colorado College. His stay there was short, but successful none-the-less. He amassed a record of 70-9 with 5 Conference Championships in 5 seasons. Then, he was off to the Dagobah system to learn the force from Master Yoda, and to study the finer points of GD.

Miami_jefe’s Menlo run began in S101, where it took just 4 seasons for Jefe to win his 1st National Championship in Wilkinson. From that point, Jefe utterly dominated D3 with a record of 542-12 from S104-S133, winning CC’s in every season at Menlo. During this time, he also went 19-2 in National Championship games. Over those 30 seasons, Jefe never lost more than 1 game in a season. That's an insane record, boys!

Miami_jefe's resume:

· Overall Record: 1015-118 -- Win %: 89.6% / NC's: 19 (21 app's) / CC's: 51
  • D3 Record: 986-112 -- W%: 89.8% / NC's: 19 (21 app's) / CC's: 49
