I have 1985 Dave Smith and 1980 Joe Sambito on a team. They have the exact same settings - both are Setup A, available to come in for the 6th inning, 20-25 PC. Through 33 games, Sambito has 18 appearances, Smith has 0.

Can anyone think of a reason for this? They're both equal, except one is a lefty and one is a righty. Seems odd that Smith would never get the call, even with Sambito at 100%.

Sambito has the lower OAV

So he always get the call no matter what? Even if there's a righty up?

And it's odd that Smith would never get a call after Sambito leaves the game.

Pretty much. Could set Sambito to Setup B so he gets used 2nd. Or you could go the Skunk route and setup everyone to either RH specialist or LH specialist

I'm not complaining about Sambito's performance. He's fine where he is. I just feel like Smith is being wasted. Even my Setup B has 11 appearances.

I’m curious how the bullpen is setup. I have the same thing going on in mine. I’m not complaining cuz I paid 6 mil for Kimbrel, I guess I want him used every game he can, but my 2nd setup A only has 30 appearances in 130 games

Does that work? I thought the RH and LH specialist roles were buggy and I’d stopped using them.

I guess it does, I just didn’t win with it. But specialists only get used before mopups so you couldn’t have any Long A’s or setups, literally everyone would have to be a specialists

Jt, what I’m seeing from your team is that you have 4 260+ inning starters. They’re gonna go atleast 7 everytime, I think you’re currently leading the league in Complete Games. So opportunities to use all your bullpen guys are rare. But usually the games aren’t close enough, from the few box scores I looked at, to use both your setup A. I’m assuming Worrell is a setup B, and Horton is a Long A, I see them quite a bit.

edit: I can see the roles. You have 3 setup A, and because Smith has the highest OAV, he’ll be used last. Maybe Horton to Long A? He has a 2.39 IP/G

Ya, I could do that.

Consider staggering the "Inning Available" feature? If a player isn't getting used enough, make him available earlier in the game? (Or, restrict your more-used pitcher an inning later perhaps?)

As noted, if all your Setup A's are available to come in at the same time, the lowest OAV will get used first.

I use only LH and RH specialist roles in most of my bullpens these days. Very effective when teamed with appropriate advanced settings.

"Only" as in you set ALL the relievers to LH or RH specialists, no Long A or B, Setup, or Closer? Wow. Worth considering, but I want to be sure I have understood what you are saying correctly.

Yes, all relievers are in specialist roles. I may occasionally throw in a mop with the specialists but nothing else.

Cool. Gonna try it. A better source than you is hard to imagine. Any screw-ups will be my own, however, and not your responsibility.
