Generation League?!? Topic

I am looking at starting my first league, and was thinking of making it as a kind of different Era's or generations.Using Quanthockey.com you can find pools of players by their birth year. So I was thinking of something as follows.

Team Years
1. 1909 and before
2. 1910 -1919
3. 1920 - 1929
4. 1930 - 1939
5. 1940 - 1949
6. 1950 - 1954
7. 1955 - 1959
8. 1960 - 1964
9. 1965 - 1969
10. 1970 - 1974
11. 1975 - 1979
12. 1980 - 1984
13. 1985 - 1989
14. 1990 - 1994
15. 1995 - 1999

The remaining teams will include 9 duplicate teams. No clones No W/W

Anyone interested?

We can get that from the search box. Polly. Are we supposed to pick two players from each generation? what's the plan? Cap is 100m?

This looks okay, but you gotta spell it out, because I have no clue what you want here

Hey Blueblade thanks for working with me on this. What I am thinking is Cap 125 m players born in 1909 and before would be team 1. players born from 1910 to 1919 woud be available for team 2. All players born in 1909 and before can play on team 1. all players born between 1910 and 1919 can be selected for team 2.

If someone wants team 12 then they can only pick players from 1980 to 1984.

The idea is to get the best players iced without so much duplication.
I Welcome any and all suggestions

The team that takes it will likely be 1960-64, and 55-59 gets you Bossy, Langway, Trottier, Gillies, Gare, and much of that deepest ever 1979 draft. .. next gets you Wayne, Kurri, Anderson, Gilmour, Messier, Coffey Macinnis, Stevens, Daneyko, Francis, Oates, ... So why would any one take say 10 t0 19? They get killed. IMO best is to say take 1 from each generation and then fill up with anyone not born in the 1955 to 69 inclusive, but allow one second player from each other generation. That way, you won't see Gretzky Kurri on every team. You WILL see Gretzky - Bossy, or Trottier - Kurri.. but the teams will not be all alike. for eg I will take Ratelle over Hull, Kurri over Gretzky, and etc. Some will have Mario AND Wayne I would be like Ratelle - Kurri, Mahovlich -Robitaille, OR Shutt with Jumbo Joe

I think that would make for a good mix. Most guys will take an old time Goalie, maybe 2 and we'd still see Finnigan and Hart, and you would likely see Doug Harvey on many teams as he was born in the 20's, and so was Red Kelly. Hard to go wrong with either one in a big cap league

OBTW Red Kelly is now 90 y.o. and still with us. AMAZING player: 4 cups with the Wings as a D, and 4 with the Leafs as a Center

Take a look at that, and once you see it, the scheme is not all that complicated

Ok Thank you for the input.
How about if we try this? 1 player from each year and then fill roster duplicate timeframes only 2 players per time frame max. no W/W
1. 1899 and before
2. 1900 - 1904
3. 1905 - 1909
4. 1910 -1914
5. 1915 - 1919
6. 1920 - 1924
7. 1925 - 1929
8. 1930 - 1934
9. 1935 - 1939
10. 1940 - 1944
11. 1945 - 1949
12. 1950 - 1954
13. 1955 - 1959
14. 1960 - 1964
15. 1965 - 1969
16. 1970 - 1974
17. 1975 - 1979
18. 1980 - 1984
19. 1985 - 1989
20. 1990 - 1994
21. 1995 - 1999

Would this be more interesting? Also is 120m too much cap? Any and all ideas welcome!

I LIKE this. $125m cap is good (You started with that). I like big caps. Go $130 and even better. IF you have NO INJURIES or susp. COUNT ME IN!

I Suggest no WW as you will go bug eyed policing it.. Let's have trades, and I always make it 24 to veto, as that feature shouldn't be there at all. Above Av Minor leaguers will be good too. Don't make them too good, though..

Keep this thread alive bump it twice a week. I like the idea of guys from each decade. I would make a stipulation just to avoid the vamilla effect of every team having mario or wayne. I use the IF THEN method

IF you draft Gretzky, you can't have Bossy AND Kurri. IF you have Mario you cannot have Bossy AND Orr.. Like that, but make it too bug eyed and some guys will walk away

Or try this: If you have neither Wayne, nor Mario, then you can clone one forward.. a lot of guys will do Bossy or Shutt, or Kurri, but this will keep the two big ones off some teams.. I for one prefer to go for it without either 99 or 66

Me and Chuck have done hundreds of leagues (seems like hundreds) so if you have Q one of us be glad to help out
