The team that takes it will likely be 1960-64, and 55-59 gets you Bossy, Langway, Trottier, Gillies, Gare, and much of that deepest ever 1979 draft. .. next gets you Wayne, Kurri, Anderson, Gilmour, Messier, Coffey Macinnis, Stevens, Daneyko, Francis, Oates, ... So why would any one take say 10 t0 19? They get killed. IMO best is to say take 1 from each generation and then fill up with anyone not born in the 1955 to 69 inclusive, but allow one second player from each other generation. That way, you won't see Gretzky Kurri on every team. You WILL see Gretzky - Bossy, or Trottier - Kurri.. but the teams will not be all alike. for eg I will take Ratelle over Hull, Kurri over Gretzky, and etc. Some will have Mario AND Wayne I would be like Ratelle - Kurri, Mahovlich -Robitaille, OR Shutt with Jumbo Joe
I think that would make for a good mix. Most guys will take an old time Goalie, maybe 2 and we'd still see Finnigan and Hart, and you would likely see Doug Harvey on many teams as he was born in the 20's, and so was Red Kelly. Hard to go wrong with either one in a big cap league
OBTW Red Kelly is now 90 y.o. and still with us. AMAZING player: 4 cups with the Wings as a D, and 4 with the Leafs as a Center
Take a look at that, and once you see it, the scheme is not all that complicated
